Alonso is a wily old fox

Hamilton made the right call not to allow Rosberg to pass. Also Hamilton should have pitted the lap before Rosberg rather than battling on following Alonso. He may have scraped an extra place that way. Of course they have computers to work this stuff out . . .

Alonso is the all round package.

Making something out of the Ferrari that it is not really capable of, Kimi coming very much second. Hamilton going from pit lane to third despite another brake problem that put him clipping the wall, was a class act, and I was pleased to see him saying up yours when he was told to let Rosberg past. If he is close enough and looks as if he can, then fine.

Mercedes are far enough ahead in the Constructors Championship that it is in the bag, so there is no reason for team orders other than do not take each other out, race and try and get a one/two.

I thought of both McKean and Scotty when I saw Vettel's "save"

Spades of luck from Vettel, but great skill too, you can see him come off the brakes as the car was straightening up, allowing the tyres to grip and move forwards.

Top drives from Alonso and Ricciardo. Loving the close racing we are getting just now with the lower downforce cars. You wouldn't get anywhere near the action of this year with all the dirty air.

Great race. Great drive by Hamilton. I agree, he was right to not let Nico pass.

Did anyone else see the "pen" interview of Rosberg on Sky after the race? He looked like he'd been crying and was about to break down... (1 min 20 secs) maybe just bad hayfever, but his body language suggests otherwise. First signs of cracks for the super cool Nico?

More likely hay fever - he has been pretty ice cool all season. It is a fascinating battle for the championship - you would have to say Hamilton has the edge on raw driving talent, but Rosberg is the more calculating, less emotional of the two. It really could go either way but my money is on Hamilton's sheer speed and overtaking aggression winning through by the end of the season.

Great race, very entertaining. If Hamilton held out over Ric, Alonso would have taken the win. Either way, Alonso did very well to stay ahead of both for so long, and Hamilton's move through the field showed his talent well.

I'm more and more impressed by Nico each race, he seems to take it in his stride, something that Lewis would do well to learn. I do wish that people would stop talking about Hamilton's bad luck though.
Bad luck would be scoring no points and watching Nico run off with the championship. Ok, so it's a stretch to call it good luck, but some things are definitely going his way - no penalty for hitting Button last time out, saved it from the wall this time, safety car ruining Nico's strategy..

As far as I can see, Lewis has had four car failures through no fault of his own, compared to Nico's one at Silverstone. That's worse luck for Lewis than for Nico. Lewis has done two consecutive epic race recoveries in the face of adversity,.. in the face of adversity at Lewis so eloquently put it.
