Motherwell - Edinburgh Train Commuters!?

Hi folks,
I suddenly find myself working from Edinburgh city centre for the forseeable and looking at train options.
Tried the Uddingston service this morning. Times are rubbish.
So now looking at Motherwell. Anyone here use that service or have any knowledge of what the parking situaion is like around Motherwell station and stuff?
Cheers,
Dave.

What's wrong with the 4S? Failing that I know someone with an e46 diesel going cheap...

Use the Dragster, ideal for Edinburgh traffic.

I'm based at St Andrews square so commuting by car is daft. Bike on a sunny Friday might happen... But not on a wet Monday in November!!

I would think you would be best getting yourself to somewhere like Croy and on the Queen st service. The central line service is awfully slow.

Looking at the cross country trains from Motherwell tbh.
Some of them only take 41 mins. Croy is an option too, but a bit of a pain to get back from if I decide to have some Friday beers after work
Uddingston would have been ideal but the trains take forever! Motherwell is the next closest that I've found so far...

There are too many corners between Dave's and Edinburgh, too much understeer risk.
I'm sure you could land a microlight in Princes St Gardens.

Is the motherwell station not in the centre of motherwell? If so i think car parking will be a nightmare.

Motherwell isn't the best for parking

Parkopedia seems to suggest there's lots of free parking... Going to investigate on Thursday unless someone knows for sure I'm wasting my time

There is nothing at the station that I am aware of but there is parking for the shops across the road (but not a lot of it) all there is at the actual station is a taxi rank and drop off point.

Hmmm. I shall investigate on Thursday with low expectations.
Scotrail says there's a couple hundred spaces... But not sure where!

Done it loads. The best option is to drive to Croy. Uddingston is closer for me but the Queen street line is much quicker

I used to commute from Motherwell to Edinburgh, was about 6 years ago though. Lived in Hamilton at the time so ran up to the station so can't help with your parking issue.
The train service was hit and miss but hopefully has improved. Cross country is great and also cheaper tickets, but it's only a few times and the service wasn't reliable at that time.
I guess the advice would be try it for a week or two and see how it goes. Croy is a better service.
My fiancée currently works in Edinburgh and drives in, but she's out east rather than city centre.

Free car park near Motherwell station but you need to arrive early. Used it a few times for day trips to London Euston.
