When talking about 340R do you think a modded one should command a premium over a standard one?

While that is some spec, surely the pure original should be worth more?

I think if it was my money I'd be buying the original with all its quirks even if the modded one could be a better car? How on earth do you put a value on these things, how much were they new, seems like depreciation free motoring for the 20 dry days we have in this country each year?

Doesn't mean it'll sell at that money. Somebody might see it and think it's the most epic idea ever and jizz cash all over the place. Or, it might sit there for years before finally selling for £25k. But it's unique, so why not test the market?

I would buy the original every time before the modified car. If it was an every day car getting a lot of use I could see the Audi offering more bang for your buck but by its very nature it will be limited use for most buyers so better to keep it original.

A rare 2.7 911 fetched $700,000 at auction !
Everyday Mk 1 and Mk 11 RS Escorts fetching north of £50k!
On that basis , a minter 340R in original factory spec bought now should fetch £2m in around 20 years time.

horses for courses........

Some of us would take the 350hp for the track and road and then puts tens of thousands of miles on it with no concern for resale value, others would buy the standard car to use on warm sunny days, never go near the track, and put very few miles on it, and a few would buy it, cocoon it in a heated garage, and wait for it to appreciate as an investment.

However I doubt if the latter would be on S_E.

It sure makes Sanjoy's look like reasonable value at the £10k he's asking.

I wonder if the 340R is rare enough for it to not matter much.

Sure, in the LONG term, the original one will potentially be worth much more, but the originality and value would diminish if you wanted to actually use it properly, and so some balance is created.

Sticking a VAG unit in the back will limit the potential buyers, especially with Honda still being the more popular engine conversion route so that's another consideration, but where is the modification line drawn?
Repainted?
Emerald ECU?
Nitrons?
Different wheels?

Got to say, I was all ready to post that mods help the value on these types of cars.
But that low mileage 340r :love
