Interesting to see how this pans out - potentially one of the biggest threats to small sports car makers, including Lotus, for a long time & a serious rival to the MX5. If it makes it to production it will no doubt fly out of the showroom.
No price stated but I guess low to mid £20k starting price but specced up with a more suitable engine mid 30's .
Looks ok too, for a hairdressers car  :blackeye

Echos of S1 elise in the front end, and Jag D type at the rear. I suspect it will be just a concept / show car (may be proven wrong). Best looking mini variant for a long time. I assume FWD, but doubt that will put off the salon owners. In fact, I'm sure it will be quite a decent steer... if it goes ahead.

I doubt it will threaten small sports car makers at all.According to the blurb it's - "longer and wider than the existing Mini roadster" so you can probably forget Superleggera (super lightweight).
Looks huge to me in the picture too (especially if those are 19 inch rims).
Probably weigh about 1400kg - Alec Issigonis will be spinning even faster in his grave than before.

The irony of Superleggera wasn't lost on me either. It's a BMW Mini therefore they will somehow manage to make it massive. I washed my gf's Mini Countryman the other weekend and it's significantly taller at the bonnet and roofline than my Audi S4 Avant - circa 6" at the roofline. It's the same width and less than 2 foot shorter. Despite this, the boot is small and there isn't a huge amount of room in the back seat. It's like a reverse TARDIS.

Reverse TARDIS. Love it. VW threatened something similar with the Bluesport (sp) albeit they did mean it about lightweight. No sign of it yet and I wonder if Lotus are actually safe enough in their niche for the mo...

Sorry

looks big, heavy and fugly :puke

Now going back to imagining what a 'gf's mini countryman' is :scratch

'mini' is obviously meant to mean small, but isn't, but what is the double entendre meaning or 'countryman'?

It looks like a not so good version of the Spyker C8, to put it politely.

Reminds me of this:

Image

Aston Martin (or is it Ford now..) grill.
Not a pretty sight for me.

Loving the EU appeal..
Union flag rear lights
Union flag interior door pulls
German car
Italian name

The name Superleggera in this case is referring to the full name of the Touring design house rather than being specifically lightweight.

Too high a window line and the rear lights are fugly.
