Madness.

I actually don't think Clarkson should be sacked, but this poor fella?

Indeed, and begs the question as to why the Beeb has music that's unfit for broadcast in its library....

Aye, the beeb's actions would infer it's every DJ's responsibility to read/listen through the lyrics of every song prior to airing

People really need to get a grip. Horrified at a word on the radio, what would they be like if something serious happened...

Yet another example of P C gone mad!

It is nuts. Radio is incredibly hung up on language. When Andy and I did that show briefly on Leith FM, we got a proper bollocking because I used a non-radio edit of a Pink song at one stage. Full apologies after the song, etc, etc - song pulled as soon as the word was uttered. Gladly, nobody was listening, as there were no complaints. :) I fully expect the show would have been pulled if there was a complaint as radio stations can actually lose their license for stuff like that, if it's repeatedly done.

The case above, though, is totally mental - pretty indicative of the BBC's utter knee-jerk overreaction to most things. Mental.

PS - WRT the library thing - the Pink song in question was one I brought in, plus I'd imagine the Beeb local station library might not have a 1930s song in it, so it would be something the DJ would have brought in himself.

I agree with Boris - time to put a bit of perspective on it an give the man his job back, I remember the days when Love Thy Neighbour was prime time viewing and positively promoted the kind of language that is so abhorrent now. It's amazing how much has changed (for the better) in living memory but to take things to the opposite extreme is potentially harmful too.

They've, rightly, offered him his job back - but sadly it's triggered an existing stress-related condition s he's refused. The show played records from his personal library.

Utterly absurd action to sack him. A reminder by his bosses to check content before recording/broadcasting his show, with on-air apology would have sufficed. Playing an old record with offensive lyrics does not make somebody a racist. Just like broadcasting the Dambusters film doesn't make the person pressing the 'play' button a racist.

PC - when will it finally be accepted there is enormous, significant difference between speaking/broadcasting a word (inintentionallu in this case) versus possible malicious intent behind it. The BBC won't even use the word in reporting fact. Too hung up on the words, not the intent.

At dinner on Friday night in the Premier Inn, there were six of us around the table and the conversation as the beers went down was strictly non PC, but it was hilarious.

You were warned so do not complain if you viewed/listened and then complain (Administrators exempt of course)
