Scam?

Post by Gareth » Fri Apr 25, 2014 2:27 pm

Advertised the bike on gumtree. Couple emails back and forth and I get this:

Fine,I will offer you £3700 just to close the deal and not selling to other buyer.?However, I will not be able to come for inspection, all i need is your word of sincerity that the item is in good condition as described online please let me know if you accept my offer ?Regarding the payment,i will be paying you through PayPal,please get back to me with your paypal details so i can process the payment,.I have also contacted my courier who will come for pick up and deliver it to my place after the whole fund has been cleared into your acct

Sooooounds a little suspect to me.
Can I go wrong giving him my email address for paypal?
Obvs I wouldn't send bike without it fully cleared in my account.

What say SE?

This whole courier thing is almost certainly horse sh*t.
If he has the cash and wants the bike then he surely would rather pay bank transfer to reduce the fee and not do a multi thousand pound deal over emails. A normal person would like to establish verbal dialogue.

I hope for your sake I am wrong but I don't want him to get scammed. Best to string him along as it's better he thinks he is getting somewhere than stealing from someone less naive.

I think I need your car Anderson drive yesterday or day before (noticed your for sale add). I was in red vx.

Agree it's a scam - ignore it.

I'm sure you will have plenty of genuine buyers soon!

P.S. I would have thought a man of your car selling experience would have spotted a scam :thumbsup

It's a scam, usually they tell you they can't take calls as they work on an ocean liner.
Most common is they send you too much money, and ask you to pay courier costs from change left over (courier costs 300, but they've over paid by £600) you jump at the chance for a bit extra, send the money to courier firm. Paypal nonsence bounces, you lose the £300 as courier firm is the scam.
Write a few replies to him, his english will get worse and worse as it goes on.
Had hundreds from autotrader they were sh*t !
