Just had a back tooth split in half eating pork crackling, and it has exposed the nerve, so giving me stick. Can not get an appointment until next week, so gritted my teeth(sic), had a couple of Laphroaigs, and pulled it out with a pair of pliers. Left a bit of jagged tooth in, so filed it down and it is fine now.

Lots of blood, showed it to Verian and she almost fainted, but put some oil of cloves on and the toothache has gone.

Plenty of others left.

I was at the dentist this morning for a check up - really surprised that they were open and even more surprised that there was a choice of appointments. I booked then realised it was Easter and phoned back to check they knew it was Easter too

Ran is an old friend of mine from the Omani War days when he was an SAS Officer. Pulled him out more than once before the Adoo cut his balls off when he was carrying out a pre-operative recce mission.

I've just finished reading Ran's book "cold". Definitely in the to 10 nutter list. I think he's up in aberdeen to do a talk sometime this year, so hoping to make it along and see what he has to say on his many adventures.

Tut, maybe you should have called the Vet, at least they would have something for the pain......and very little worse than tooth trouble.

there is an emergency dentist at Forresterhill - i went there years ago with an abcess problem - i think it's manned 24 hours.

It's OK now Tony, tooth gone, ache gone. We did a pretty comprehensive First Aid and Emergency Surgery course in the Royal Marines in the old days as we could be out on jungle patrol for long periods in Borneo.

Since then it has been all in sand or rock and only one day patrols and always with a medic, so you do not need the same self repair.

The stuff you can buy in supermarkets (Mr Porky, etc) is rubbish - so be interested to know what you buy from where, Tut.

I love belly pork so buy quite a lot of it on line from the real free range pig farms, normally when it is on special offer, so cook a big piece as a roast which leaves plenty of meat and crackling for snacking on for a couple of days.

This is one of them, also Donald Russell but only on the half price offers as they are too expensive. Lovely thick belly pork though.

No, tis in Inverurie, some of the best meat going, they supply 3* Michelin restaurants as far as Dubai, but pretty pricey unless you stick to their special offers.

Thanks - I do the same when we have a pork roast. Save the crackling for another day

Was naively hoping for the miracle, ie. ready-to-eat real crackling.
