Do you leave the car in gear ?

Post by Sanjøy » Tue Sep 26, 2006 8:29 am

Any why ? Mates does it and it bugs the hell out of me when I drive his car.

Shares the parking force between the handbrake and the engine.

I know this doesn't apply to the elise but it's also handy in front wheel drive cars as all four wheels are locked stopped someone using a towing dolly to steal your car.

Yup. Was taught it when I did my advanced driving test and have been doing it since. It's an extra bit of parking security, especially important with the Elise handbrake not being that great.

It's a good idea to use 1st gear as additional handbrake. once you've lost a couple of cars rolling naway when the brakes cool you'll understand why :)

My first car was a Cinq Sporting. Handbreak isn't very good - you just get used to it

As it happens when i park my car i point the wheels to the kerb, click the steering lock, leave it in gear and then put a big silver Disclock on.

C'mon just try and steal it

I only use the handbrake on tight corners and to aid drifting around roundabouts.*

Ask Mac - I was the poor git in the wrong side of the back seat. 2x skinny gits moving at 30mph still bloody hurts!
