Bus lane fine

Just received a Charge Notice from Edinburgh Council for driving in a bus lane last Wednesday on the way home from the funeral. Just googled because I had seen this before, but it seems fairly clear.

Verian was in the bus lane because I had been caught short and she was looking for a toilet. I was going to appeal anyway, but this would seem to cover it.

Bus lanes and Bus-only routes
Bus lanes are clearly marked out on the roads
with a thick white line and the words BUS LANE
in the lane.

Bus lanes give priority to buses and certain vehicles
such as taxis, emergency services and bikes. Keeping
them clear helps create a more reliable bus service.
Things to remember:

• On the red route a vehicle displaying a Blue Badge
can enter a bus lane to pick you up or set you
down at the kerb

• The distance driven in the bus lane must be the
minimum practical distance to carry this out

• If the vehicle displaying the Blue Badge drives
in the bus lane for longer than is needed, the
vehicle’s owner may be issued with a Penalty
Charge Notice

Bus-only routes are marked with signs and can
only be used by buses and certain types of vehicle.

Thought that I would hear nothing more about this, but just received a letter asking for £90 otherwise the Sheriffs would be calling. Finally found a phone number through google as the only one on the notice was to pay the fine.

Spoke to a pleasant lassie to ask why I had heard nothing before this, and she said a letter had been sent in April turning down my appeal and asking for £60. I quoted the paragraph in the Blue Badge Book stating that dropping off and picking up was allowed in a bus lane. She said that was not allowed in Edinburgh and Glasgow and there were no bus lanes in Aberdeen. I then spoke to her Manager who asked me what my disabilities were, I listed them all and how I had got them and he said forget about it, it is now cancelled.

Satisfying to see that there is a human element amongst the modern day bureaucracy.

I once left my car for a weekend on double yellows in Bournemouth town centre because although I'd intended to just nip into town and see some pals I ended up coming over all drunk.
I then successfully appealed my parking tickets due to being a holder of an orange badge.
It was a long time ago.
I'm all better now.
