Could Porsche be losing some of their appeal due to the fact that they're everywhere now? Every time I take a drive I see tonnes of them, not just the 'cheaper' ones but 911's are as common as muck these days too. If that's the case for some then surely the Macan won't help?

Personally I always wanted a 911, tried a few but wasn't convinced either way. It was my other half that sealed the deal - we went to look at the Evora and she said that the Lotus was a far cooler, better looking more interesting motor to have - sold! (have to add I thought it was brilliant to drive too)

Porsche engineering is certainly up there with the best but most of their cars now are pretty boring offerings, GT3 excepted. They all look the same too.

No doubt their sales figures prove otherwise so I'll sit back now and wait to be told I'm a nugget

I read that Porsche had already sold their 1st years production of the Macan, some 50,000 units, so expect the streets of Aberdeen to be littered with them soon enough.

In white, grey or black (because Aberdeen needs to be more monochromatic), diesel, with the largest alloy option spec'ced.

On the subject of Porsche, been looking at a few around the £20-30k mark recently, and come to the realisation that I'd prefer one without the badge.. As in, I really like the cars themselves, but can't stand the fact they are a Porsche..

Just picked up an early Boxster for my sis in-law last night, I actually quite like them, fancy an old Boxster S to try and get back in love with driving again seem to be cheap enough, but I need to cap the wifes 'Oh I've booked us a holiday' habit...

I am one of the ones that really doesnt get Porsche - for me they havent moved on design wise since Noah started on the Ark.

The reality is though the design is different and you only need to see a 1980s Porker next to a new one to see that , but it was an evolution and each new model has hardly changed from the one before and until they started making 4x4s the models all looked similar too.

I drove a 911 a couple of years after I passed mty test and it was little better than my mates Beetle in driving position and operation of the controls - only it was ( obviously) a tad quicker.
I test drove one in the early 90's with a view to purchase and couldnt get passed the fact that it still had the same driving position and floor mounted pedals, from that time on never had any interest in owning one , apart from a 918

I've had dark thoughts of a cheapish early Boxster, but as a project, whereby I'd bin that unreliable flat-6 (possibly one with pre-blown engine), and fit a nice Audi 4.2 V8... Would make for a nice, relatively unremarkable looking, but quick with a V8 soundtrack, sportscar..

The world would be a strane place if someone who just bought a Lotus thought "I'd prefer a porsche." In the same way you can't expect the number of Porsche owners/enthusiasts to say you're right. Where do we hope this thread will go other than "horses for courses" or <insert similar cliche here>?

I get what you are saying Kenny. They have less appeal to me than they use to, and the newer, the less appeal to me too. Having been in a few, the newer ones just seem less special. I think it would be harsh to say they now feel mass market, but some character has been lost IMHO. No doubting they are mighty fine cars though.

Don't get me wrong if your buying a car with your head it's hard to look past the Porsche. If I had the money as was in the market I might feel differently.

Luckily the world is more interesting than that.

The GT3 is a separate matter entirely.

Right now I'd rather have an Evora than a 911 though.

If I did stumble on the funds to have either, the sensible compromise is probably the 911.

But a GT3 is utterly out my league. For now
