Replacement Garage Door

Hi Everyone,

Looking to get a new garage door fitted and was wondering what the DIY option is like. In the archives, a few folk have done this but was wondering if it was a recommended option in hindsight? Supply of non branded insulated roller door is sub £500 but local companies are £1200 fitted for presumably a branded version.

Any thoughts?

As you already have the garage opening it is an easy job fitting a roller door. My local handyman did it but had to knock out the granite wall in the annexe first.

All you are doing is mounting two brackets for it to hang in, and two side rails for the runners. Craig Wallace recently did his himself also. You can get an online quote here, mine was for 8' wide at £650 for an electric remote in mahogany.

I presume they get pretty heavy though...

My garage is somewhere around 14 1/2 foot wide..

Im currently building a garage for a customer as we speak , my garage guy charges me £700 +vat for a roller door up to ten feet wide [glideroll] and a further £350 + vat for auto door thats fitted. I probably could get cheaper but he's reliable and good , you get what you pay for. PM me if your central belt and can put you on to them.

Garage door spring sheared earlier this week, nearly took my head office. Luckily no car involved and my head will heal.

Roller door could be the way forward. Ian you have a PM.

Alan, pop down and look at mine if you want. You could fit it yourself, or hurt yourself trying. One of those.

I'm going to need a new garage at some point, although with so much else to do at the house it wont be for a while. Do you mind sharing what you are building and what it is costing? I completely understand that costs change all the time but an indication would help. FYI I'm thinking of a big double, concrete base, breeze block and render, pitched roof with fake slate.

Even a rough ball park guess would be very much appreciated.
