UK Car foreign sales

Post by r10crw » Sat Feb 15, 2014 7:19 pm

Ive sold my car to a guy in switzerland who says he can deal with all paperwork.

Thats great but I still have to send information regards the new owner to the DVLA. How does it work for me putting a foreign address down?

Just concerned that I stay as the registered uk owner?

Had a quick google but most things come up with how to register car abroad which I wont be doing. Im only trying to ensure they know that dont fine me for something as I was caught out before.

Any thoughts?

I'd have thought completing the "notification of permanent export" on the V5C would cover this?

Yeah saw that but thats only if I was taking the vehicle and not sure about the permanent bit.

The transfer to a new owner has a post code and hints at UK transfer.

Ill speak to the guy as Im taking his elise in PX and he says he has the V5. Just want to cover myself.

Craig

The details are on the DVLA site some where. 2 of my Lotus went to Belgium and it was all pretty straight forward. They sent me back the tax disc too for a few extra £sss.

As above.

It is a very simple tick on the V5 that the vehicle is permanently exported.

However the sale cannot be concluded without a COC (Certificate of Conformity) .
This is a single sheet of white paper usually overlooked and lurking in the Handbook folder.
If you do not have one, I believe Lotus will provide you one at a charge
There are also robbing bar steward websites that do it for you for €160

My priority is getting paid ......but most Johnny Foreigners appear happy to pay in full... weeks before taking delivery

Thanks again guys, so Im wondering if he has a UK address or something since he has the V5 for the elise Im taking back. Ill check with him this week.

Also no worry money wise, he is keeping back 1K at the handover but the rest is two payments to my account the first of which has went through without issue.
