He bought the car in Dec after a short spell in a NA VX. 220 odd bhp in a mid-engined car with no traction control is bound to be a bit spikey.

This time of year is known on the VX site as newbie cull time. Sadly a load of people seem to gravitate towards the VX (esp the turbo) from scoobies and hot hatches and we sadly have a number of accident pretty early on in their ownership of the car.

I'm not claiming to be a driving god, far from it, but sadly that sort of crash is all too familiar after 10 years on the VX board.

It is good to see how they hold up in a crash though.

I tried to transfer my insurance from the 340 to my VX through the winter and was refused. Sorry we dont insure VX220's!

Guess its because of this Newbie Cull.

The headlamps are £1,100 each at the moment. Add in clams, paint and some labour and it's easy to see why they are getting written off.

They are so last year anyway.....the cool kids are moving onto other cars.....

I can vouch for how "strong" the tub is....mine took a fair wallop but doors still closed with a light push as normal and only a crack in the windscreen.That's a lot bigger an incident than mine though....glad no- one hurt

Yep, but its the torque that does it. The SC can kick out ~200lb/ft at just over 2,000rpm, so you don't have to be pushing the engine hard or be driving particularly quickly to be in a situation where the rear loses traction, especially when its damp of course.. Couple that with mapping that isn't always the smoothest.. Even with newish track tyres, I had to be careful coming off a particular roundabout as they would spin up in 4th with a little too much throttle..
