It's for the Le Mans project - part of a hybrid powertrain. Sad thing being that even though the current F1 engines are within the regs for Le Mans, they still have to be a very restricted design of V6 - so something like this wouldn't be legal going the other way.

The whole 40kg weight thing is a bit misleading I feel - not sure if it includes the weight of the turbo and manifold itself, intercooler, and is probably dry.. Start adding these on and it starts to look more like 60-70kg, which is still light of course. The engine is also designed to work as part of a hybrid power train, so I'm making the assumption that the electric drive components / motors bolster the low-mid range torque curve significantly, and that the engine alone would have a very "old school" turbo power / torque curve which would make it farily unsuitable for road use.

Saying all that, looks like the same technology could be used to produce a sub-100kg turbo road car engine with decent power / torque..
