Sale of goods act-busted car after 2 days

Friend of a colleague just bought his first car from Arnold Clark (i know, I know).
Purchased 2d ago. 3yr old Renault Clio. has only done 2 days of driving-1.5 miles each way. Car stopped on M.way yesterday, called AA who suggested the sump plug had been "knocked out from the inside" clearly leading to car urinating all its oil on the road and the inevitable seized engine ensued.
AC are, needless to say, trying to blame the driver-not sure on what grounds.
Any advice?

Straight onto the dealer principal quoting sale of goods act - not fit for purpose and add threat of any of the Watchdog/ judge type programmes for good measure.

Reject the car. Do it in writing. Request all replies in writing.

Yep, pretty much my thoughts. Think they're just trying the usual-"its your fault". Wouldn't imagine too much of a leg to stand on but I'm getting the story 3rd hand.

I'd have thought even Arnold Shark Used Cars would come with a minimum of 3 months warranty

I believe it does have a warranty but they're claiming it was something he did that lead to the sump plug falling out?!?!

Because every driver who has owned a car for 2 days puts the car on a ramp to remove then re-fit the sump plug
As said earlier reject the car and kick up a huge fuss, by-pass the Salesman and his Manager and go straight to the Dealer Principal and if necessary Head Office.

Not a car but I used the Sales of Goods on a pair of trainers we bought for my 8 yr old son. After a few months the sole decided to detach itself from the upper on one shoe. I took it back for a replacement and initially the shop tried to blame my son. I was having none of it, stood my ground and reminded them of the 'Fit for Purpose' statement. We left with a brand new pair of trainers
