Thinking of buying a 2005 VW Touareg?
Thinking of buying a 2005 VW Touareg?
As the title says really, I'm considering a used purchase and wife wants a VW Touareg this time around. I'll have her Subaru Outback for my airport runs. We are considering anything between £6000 to £10,000. Quite like he look of the Altitudes although commanding a higher price.
Anyone here got experiences of Touareg and what to look out for?

Also wondering if I would be stuck with main VW dealer to fix if anything went wrong. Are there any VW Touareg specialist around Aberdeenshire area?
Re: Thinking of buying a 2005 VW Touareg?
I have a 2004 2.5 manual.
Great car, enough power, infact i have a chip in mine and it goes very well. 27 mpg .
Had it for 2 years now, changed 2 broken rear springs, front brake caliper, and the centre bearing on the prop, which is very common and a real pain to do. But not bad for a old car really. They are built very well.

If you want to empty the piggy bank a bit more...............I have a mint 2009 Altitude that wants for nothing!

As Stu says they have a tendency to break coil springs ( I have just replaced the rears on mine and done the drop links for good measure)
The prop bearing can go on the early ones and its slow decline starts with a clunk on take off..............this can be replaced with a bit of fiddling about with a £70 bearing.
If you don't like fiddling.............its a new prop with bearing attached
The front door hinges sag due to the weight of the mahoosive doors...hopefully the bottom ones......... otherwise you need to remove dash bits to get at the top ones
The 3.0 V6 is super smooth and very quick with fixtures and fittings of a quality X5/X6 owners can only dream of!
If fuel consumption bothers you, expect 27MPG around town with 31 MPG on longer journeys.

I've never heard a good word re bavaria and the abz volks centre is not a cheap option.Jam_s160 wrote:Also wondering if I would be stuck with main VW dealer to fix if anything went wrong. Are there any VW Touareg specialist around Aberdeenshire area?
i've used hawco peterhead for the last 7 years and would reccomend them. VW main dealer but not as typically heavy with the pen as you would imagine.
don't know about a touareg specialist. might be worth having a chat with dunecht 4x4 or a guy i work with swears by the guys at inverurie auto centre. he's used them a few times as a sort of car fetching, checking, test driving service. te;ll them what you want, they'll look nationally, give you a short list, go and fetch the one you like the look of.

Looked at the DT UK for the family S-Max 2.2 TDci and retails @ £269 (200 to 230ps and 420 to 490NM). Anyone any experience of Superchips Blufin which offers the same gains but more expensive @ £359 ?Stu160 wrote:Just buy a box from DT UK. Stu
