iPhone query (NLC)

Post by rossybee » Sun Dec 01, 2013 3:49 pm

Quick one for those in the know, me being an Apple ignoramus...

iPhone 4, standard phone, new and still in box, not the 4S, currently running IOS6 - heard someplace that updating to IOS7 will greatly slow it and affect its performance.

True, or utter hogwash?

TIA :thumbsup

I am running IOS 7 on my iPhone 4 and it's fine.

As predictable, it's a little slower - takes a breath longer to unlock/access the phone keypad/etc but nothing intolerable at all - but I'm very happy with it. Far from 'greatly slowed'. IOS 7's user experience is an enhancement over the previous versions IMHO. Note that some of 7s headline enhancements are inaccessible to 4 owners.

That being said I thought iOS6 was better. Might not of had the performance of 7 but had a much better look to it. 7 looks and feels like a backward step IMHO.

I agree Mike. The look of it is just opinion I suppose, I prefered 6 but 7 is fine.

What annoys me is that some of the things which were intuitive before now seem overly complicated. The music app (which should surely be the heart of an iPhone) is a particular annoyance with little things which simply don't work as well as they used to.

The 'swipe up' to access settings from the lock screen is brilliant though.

I'd go back to iOS6 if I could though.

Definitely noticed it slowing down the iPhone 4 when upgrading Nicky's 4 to iOS7, within two weeks she bit the bullet and upgraded to a 5s

I had a iPhone 4 (non-S). iOS7 definitely slowed down, and is also completely sh*t, even when it's fast (I have it on the iPad too). It was the shove I needed to ditch the iPhone and get an Android phone. Zero regrets.

I also don't like the look of iOS7, looks more childlike if that makes sense. The other half upgraded hers and I don't like it, think I'll just stay on iOS5. :D

Just to clarify, it's most defo not for me, and the person in question (my 12yr old son Calum) thinks he's getting a (superior imo) galaxy s3 but will be overjoyed to be opening an apple product instead, in just over three weeks

Oh I doubt that verily mukkle, all he'd glean is what Dom posted on the EVO forum thread.

I'd not have posted this up otherwise.

LOL

PS surprised no one has suggested I get him a boxster instead, just like theirs.

Update - as anticipated, he was overjoyed with it, and regularly reminds me that he loves his new phone, so I'm happy

Now, against my suggestion, he upgraded to IOS 7, and it's working brilliantly - so thanks for your advice Jason - you were right all along :thumbsup

This was nothing to do with preference of IOS 6 over IOS 7, he much prefers 7, so is smitten :cheers
