Atomic clocks
Atomic clocks
Are they not supposed to adjust automatically as a computer does?
I have three and they have not budged yet.

Re: Atomic clocks
Atomic clocks just keep going the change is done downstream from the time signal these put out. There was a bit about it on radio 4 last week.

Re: Atomic clocks
One of my clocks changed but another one didn't!
Re: Atomic clocks
The atomic clock (and associated UK radio clock broadcasts) are in UTC. Time hasn't changed, just our offset from it.

One has now changed, the other has not.

That is because one knows what timezone you are in and the other doesn't.
The transmitted signal has not changed.

Re: Atomic clocks
Ahh not an atomic clock question but a radio clock question.
You should be able to do a "get" to syncronise the clock it probably only does it once a day anyway. I had to do it with my watch as it doesn't get the best signal when I'm in bed sleeping.

Re: Atomic clocks
This thread is far more interesting than the other Petrol versus Diesel one..................
My "Atomic" update is that I have found an aerial underneath the bedside cabinet and now placed it in a more prominent position on top of the wardrobe...............the time has now updated.
I still reserve the right to blame the Chinese................

Re: Atomic clocks
Question is of course, do I have an atomic clock or a radio clock.

Re: Atomic clocks
radio clock,
unless it looks like this

The time on your clock is set by radio, this signal is connected to a Caesium clock thats connected to GPS and something else that I can't remember.

Re: Atomic clocks
You have a radio clock that knows what time zone it is in.
There aren't many atomic clocks in the world

Re: Atomic clocks
I only know one thing about atomic clocks - quite facinating though.
Fact:
Take four atomic clocks to Heathrow Airport
Put two of them on a plane to somewhere far away - leave the remaining two at Heathrow (they used four for extra accuracy)
When the two on the plane reach their destination, put them back on the plane and send them back to Heathrow.
On arrival check the two travelled clocks against the two that remained at Heathrow - the travelled clocks will now be running behind - proof that speed slows time!
Always amazes me that one
I doubt it would work with your radio signal bed side clock Tut
