BMW M135
Re: BMW M135
I do know of one SEr who spent a day with one on an extended test drive - he was amazed and disappointed, enough so to not buy.

Brother in Law has a M135..................seems to love it after 18 months of ownership
His mutterings are great car............but needs a slippy diff
He bought it as an everyday smoker after deciding to dispose of all his toy cupboard ( Ferrari 575 /Robinson R44/Beneteau 38 )
We, the family , thought it would be a fleeting courtship.....................but he's had it chipped to such an extent that it frightens him and his precious spaniels.

Re: BMW M135
I thought the M135 was just a Facelift 1M
BMW nomenclature has really gone to the wall lately.
135i M-sport?

Re: BMW M135
Exactly. Neither are proper M Cars yet the M135 is £10k cheaper for brand new v 2 yrs old, a model generation newer with a far nicer interior, more fuel efficient, better to drive by most accounts and only 0.1secs slower to 60 and 100 respectively. And it doesn't look like a Vauxhall Nova Saloon with flared wheel arches.Andy G wrote:Hardly the samemwmackenzie wrote:Peter has a 1M, from what I read he seems to like it,
The 1M has rarity on it's side but I'm not looking for an investment.
A chap in our Cardiff office has just chopped in his 997 C2S X51 for a M135 and swears it's the real deal and the best all round car he's ever owned. He's had all sorts, F355, Noble, a TVR, Exige, 996 GT3, various M cars and an AMG thingie so I do value his opinion.
A lightly run in one at £25k looks like a mouth watering prospect if it drives as well as it's hyped up to be as it covers so many bases I could run this as my one and only car. It even cracks a real world 38mpg on a run FFS.
Test drive time I think !

Thanks Boag that's good to know and backs up my colleagues story.

Re: BMW M135
Interested in any real life experience as well, as I've been reading up on M135i as my possible next secondhand purchase to replace my 3 series Touring when the time comes, nice smooth 6 cylinder with turbos for low down power.
1M was part of the BMW Motorsport GmbH division which is a bit watered down in recent years from the previous core values, hand built, hard core original remit of the division building race cars to also build road cars like the 1st M3 but the true M models are still designed and built under M GmbH division, 1M was and is a bit more extreme and limited edition car than other recent models.
M135i is supposed to be part of a intermediate BMW M Performance regular build positioned between the Motorsport division built cars and the run of the mill M sport models (like my 320d M Sport and previous 330 Sport) which are effectively trim styling models consisting of badges, interior and exterior trim, bigger wheels and harder suspension ie just M division designed accessories.
Anyway, M135i has been getting great reviews since it's launch, was just reading last years Car magazine and it bet the last gen Boxster S as their sports car of the year. Also since they have been fairly popular there should be a reasonable number of 2nd hand ones about - this was my problem when I looked to buy my latest 3 series Touring, fancied a 335i and they were only costing about 2k more than a 320d but in 3 months I only saw a couple of 335i touring appearing in ads compared to 1000's of 320d's.
One issue with the M135i though, is how did they manage to make it look so bad ?
It is mentioned in all the reviews how bad it looks yet it only had minor changes from the previous 1 series which was reasonable looking

I've got a Cooper S and it's never done 38mpg either.BiggestNizzy wrote:I have a 130i and it has never ever done 38mpg.
That's also got zero relevance to the economy of an M135i.
