This looks like good value for a charger / optimiser if anyone is looking for one.

Got the older version it's been fine for a few years so far
Having an early S1 I chopped the crock clips and fitted a plug ( from a broken electric tyre pump ) it now charges through the live cig lighter , 2 sec's to connect

I am looking for a trickle charger for the winter months. Connecting to the cig lighter in an S2 would be good.

Can't go wrong with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty

I have no idea if an s2 lighter is still live ( direct to battery ) when the ignition is switch off I do know the early S1 is however I believe the later S1 is not

Just a quick question here -
Should I disconnect the battery from the car before charging, or just attach the unit and go for it?
Cheers

The idea of this type of charger is to charge the battery whilst connected.
If you were prepared to disconnect the battery you wouldn't need this charger at all as once disconnected the battery will hold charge for a very long time.
The only issue with disconnecting the battery for prolonged periods is what happens to the battery in the klaxon (if there is one ... there was on the S1 and I don't know whether it's there in all the models).
So this type of charger is probably the best compromise provided it actually does what it is supposed to. If it overcharges the battery then it will kill it just as much as deep discharge will.
Cheers,
Robin

I use battery optimisers on all the cars when they are not in use. Fabulous things. In my experience, some S2s have a live cigarette lighter socket and some don't. Easy to test though. And to be honest, it is sometimes easier to clip to the battery than to reach inside the car with a roof on in a narrow garage.

Thanks for this
I bought one yesterday. I have an Optimate but the Reynard- Lotus runs on a "total loss" system so I often need to charge the onboard battery and the slave at the same time.
Now if only they sold driving lessons..............
