Watched the Lamborghini Urraco show last night, huge risk that turned out well and lovely looking car
Guy that ended up buying it pulled up in a McLaren so clearly not short of a bob or 2.

I always think that going to buy a car (or anything else where your car is seen), in something flash, undermines your ability to negotiate.

Big risk on that one, but it worked for them, with a decent profit too. £2.5K for clutch parts

As always on that show, though. The original concept was to see if you could make a profit turning them around and doing the work yourself, hence no cost for Eds time. In reality, the costs are all fudged anyway, but it's more about the journey. Like DIY SOS for cars

This is always the case, or more accurately, the labour would mean a loss.

I've always thought that way too, but have used the Elise to take my mate out to look at, and buy cars in the past.

Ok, it's not too flash compared to a McLaren, but a bright green Elise in the normal world when you're looking at a 900 quid Tigra... well

And 'cos (as I've said on another Wheeler Dealers thread) the original show concept was to illustrate how the home mechanic could buy a car needing TLC, spend not a lot on parts, then flip it for profit. They just happened to do it in a professionally fitted out garage (but the early shows didn't tackle stuff that strictly needed ramps and air tools - Edd was always going on about how 'you could do it at home')

That overriding concept has gone out of the window (because it's boring to watch them changing plugs on an old Mondeo to make £500), but the costs and show format has stayed. If you catch any of the early shows repeated, you'll see what I mean.

It's great entertainment - I'm sure most of us have browsed pistonheads & carandclassic.co.uk and day dreamed about restoring a down at heel car to roadworthy condition.

Watching the show goes some way to satisfying these urges - The magic of television obscures the fact that it's likely a team of researchers source the cars, "SIlent" Paul (and others) does the bulk of the spannering, many items are changed at additional cost without being mentioned (wheels refurbed / full set of tyres etc), and the 'buyer' is occasionally one of the production team.

Still my fav thing on Discovery

When they did the MK1 Escort the passenger side door had a huge dent in it which mysteriously repaired itself before it went to paint.

The E39 M5 got a free set of tyres, luckily they were free as the profit wasn't any more than about £400 iirc
