S2 111R valuation
Looks like I'm going to have a bit of grief regarding the valuation of the car I damaged...declared total loss as expected.
I've sorted out the policy XS which mysteriously rose from £250 to £400...... Worth a try but they'll have to get up earlier in the morning to fleece a Scotsman so blatantly.
Hassle it looks like I'm going to have is getting a "proper" valuation from the insurers, not sure if I should reveal what they've offered but I would welcome your educated input based on the following:
2005 Elise 111R touring
40K with history from lotus (servicing at Murrays')
Very good condition as had a front end respray to remove all road rash at time of purchase
Car didn't have any outstanding issues pre-accident,rear tyres just replaced, serviced in April
Please be forthcoming with your valuations,I'm sure every one will be better than the offered value from insurance company.

Re: S2 111R valuation
I am guessing they are offering £13k
Push for £14k although I think you may struggle
Offer up 3 similar cars on A/T and take an average price?

Re: S2 111R valuation
Quick check on pistonheads 111r adverts, mix between trade and private prices being advertised are
2004 38k £15450
2005 57k £15950
2004 49k £15750
2005 34k £16500
2005 26k £17995
2005 47k £15450
2004 70k £14950
Assume the actual selling prices will be lower but still useful to point out and justify to the insurance companies the current advertised prices.
On the basis of the above just under or around £16k sounds a reasonable figure.
I'm sure a few guys with unfortunate experiences over the last year or two will be able to highlight the differences between insurance valuations they accepted vs current on sale prices.
I know when I had my 111r, some were being sold around £13k so I expect the trade in figure for yours will be something like £13500.
Hope it all gets sorted out to your satisfaction soon and without too much hassle.

Re: S2 111R valuation
That certainly will be a battle but I'm giving it a go.Paid a dealer price which I'm not expecting to get back but not getting butt-++cked either!!
Re: S2 111R valuation
You obviously know that they are at it but a wee tale to strengthen your resolve.
Friend's missus had a Subaru Legacy nicked a few years ago. The first offer, which she accepted over the phone was 700 quid, minus excess and outstanding premiums which meant they owed the insurer money.
After a bit of a think, some Auto trader ads and a bit of shouting it was upped to 2 and a half grand.
Push for 20

Re: S2 111R valuation
Agreed a settlement over the phone today so waiting for cheque and possibly looking for replacement vehicle...not really missing a car at the moment!!
The claim handler also said the case wasn't strictly closed as if I could convince them that my car was indeed worth more that what we've settled on then they would forward on the difference ....like that'll happen!!
Can't see it muddying the water now so in case it's of reference for anyone else the 1st "offer" I rejected without getting it in writing was £14600....todays' is £15500 and can't really be arsed with any more phoning, etc so "put the cheque in the post please".... Time to move on in life.
Lovely looking elise fairly local to me,just not sure I want another so similar....karma and all that!!

Re: S2 111R valuation
Sounds like a reasonable offer, have a change, put a bit more money to it and go for one of a couple of S2 Elise 190 sport available at the moment to be different, I would really like to have one of them.
Maybe put a bit of money aside for ear plugs and the occasional engine rebuild though.

Re: S2 111R valuation
Rarity value of sport 190 is appealing but probably too racy for me....wouldn't think you'd get a day off with the tune the motor's in....earplugs a necessity not a luxury.111R was a bit bi-polar but I was hoping the Japanese running gear would be reliable, that was my thinking when I bought the yellow one.........unfortunately didn't get to test the long term reliability
Serious browsing starts now although I'm not convinced that I need a car to store all winter unless it was a tempting price.

Yeah I know, especially soft tops, going to be looking even if it means trailering it home for storage until the spring.Think the availability of suitable Lotus will dry up over the months with poor weather and then prices will buoy up in spring with the first glimpse of sun.
Re: S2 111R valuation
That certainly used to be the case. Not so sure that it still is however. Last year price actually went up slightly over winter and have dropped back through the year, not by much however.

I bought my MX5 from a dealer on 2nd January. They were very keen to do a deal.
