Q397: Can I carry a passenger on my motorbike and is there an age limit on being a pillion passenger?

In order to carry a passenger on a motorcycle,
•the rider must have a full licence for that class of motor cycle;
•a motor bike must be equipped with suitable supports or rests for the feet of the pillion passenger;
•pillion passengers must be capable of sitting astride a proper seat securely fixed to the motorcycle;
•a pillion passenger must wear a suitably constructed safety helmet;
•and the decision to carry a passenger remains with the rider, who is legally responsible for ensuring that the passenger is safely supported.

Although there is currently no minimum legal age for a person to ride pillion, it is strongly advised that they have parental consent, wear a properly fitting and specially designed helmet and are able to reach the foot rests

owever

So if you alter the foot pegs on your ZZR1100 and you can carry legally carry your four year old granddaughter for instance :shock: 8)

I'm sure she would love it :shock:

Thinking that 4 year olds on bikes might not go too well though!

I've seen a few youngsters on the back of bikes over the years - my mate takes his seven year old daughter on the back of his Hyabusa regularly and she loves it.

4 might be a bit too young if you ask me.

When I was into biking I remember taking my Mum out as a pillion passenger on my ZXR400. Quite an experience. When I leaned into a corner my Mum wasn't overly keen so for good measure she would lean in the opposite direction :lol: After a few miles there ended my willingness to carry anybody on the back.

Reminds me of this :mrgreen:

Watch on YouTube

My Calum is 4 weeks away from his 12th birthday (and tall enough to reach pedals etc) and I'm very tempted to teach him the basics on a private road, just as my old man did for me :thumbsup

Bloody hell she's getting big! Time flies.

Until they are strong enough to hold on tight I wouldn't be taking my 2 (8 and 3) on the road bike. Maybe if I had a sensible touring road bike with tail box to hold them in then I would.

I'd take them both on the motocrosser in a field no problem though. :lol:
