Cheap vx

Post by pete » Sun Jun 30, 2013 11:51 pm

It's for sale as a CAT C but as far as I can see it's all fixed.

Having a look and if you read further in the description, the pics are mainly of the car a month before the accident it might be cheap to buy but still have to repair it then get it signed off as roadworthy

This damage is 100% cosmetic
....and yet it hit something hard enough to bend the exhaust 4 inches out of shape....not sure im convinced.

GBobM sold his car for low £5k IIRC and it was a well known, repaired cat D taxed and tested. That's the sort of place my money would be going.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

HMMMM

"The damage is confined to the rear clam shell and the rear exhaust box. As you can see in the pictures the exhaust is bent in about 4”. It could be bent back into shape easily because of the way the Tullet back box is constructed. As for the clam, you could replace it or buy a repair panel for £175 on eBay. "

So why doesn't he buy it and sell it for 5k as a fixed car?

So often see car adverts "only a 20quid part", "only 150 for respray"

Yeah - so that's why you're selling if it is so easy to fix

Pretty sure the exhaust on the VX is designed to deform fairly easily during a rear impact (effectively acts as a crumple zone) so that sort of damage might not be the rest of too big an impact. Its probably the hangers and u-pipe that have been bent. Aftermarket exhausts usually also have a second bend after the silencer, so its probabyl that and a dented silencer section.

Still think it looks a good buy if you can get a cheap enough rear clam section and a spare exhaust..

Mine sold for less than that Donkey.

To be fair, i did similar damage when I reversed it into the low wall at MMC. :thumbsup A crack in the fiberglass is nothing and if that's all it needs then I would just take it to a fiberglass specialist and get them to repair it for a couple of hundred quid. Either that or use it as a track slag and leave the gaffer tape.

Pretty sure gaffer tape is a recognisable repair technique, and he's already done a bang up job!
