Calling all pre-MY12 Evora S owners (Exhaust stuff)

Post by SAJ » Sat Jun 08, 2013 11:34 am

I've been running around with a prototype 2Bular system for a few weeks now on the Evora and have my Evora S full exhaust system sitting spare now.

The back box and de-cat pipe would make a big difference to MY11 cars or earlier. Both bits sell for about £1100 in total so just want to see if anyone would be interested in making me an offer so any of the bits.

I'll create a separate thread about the full 2bular manifold, sports cat and back box when I have the final version on the car but it does have a nice tone to it.

Saj, I've been running Jim's system for about a year now and can confirm that it sounds good. Originally I had the manifolds and link pipe which released about 20bhp (got the RR comparison graphs somewhere) running with the standard 3rd cat and Lotus sport back box. Now it has the 100cell cat and back box with vacuum operated valve in it. Not hook the valve up yet as the exhaust is well loud enough as is got a lovely rip to it and will take video today and post up. (i know I said that before but haven't had the car).

I have the blue tipped exhaust, 3rd cat delete and radium. I've heard that if you get the headers with the above set up the ecu on the standard map can't compensate:-(

Not true, I had the manifolds, link pipe etc fitted when we ran the car on the RR and we mapped the lambda as well and it was fine. The map certainly releases more power by altering the fueling as the exhaust is less restrictive so you will get better gains using the map but the engine corrects for the exhaust just fine just doesn't give as much as it can.
The blue tipped exhaust is the Lotus sport silencer, I had that fitted to the car but blew out all the packing which apparently is really common. Gets louder over time that is how you can tell BTW.

Sounds great mike, certainly loud enough with out the valve open.

I actually thought it sounded better with the Lotus silencer although never tried it with the 100 cell cat. I does sound awesome though and I have grown to really like it. That and as standard the car is waaaaay to quite. The idea behind the current set up was to try a bypass valve in one of the silencer pipes so it would be quite and docile at steady throttle but give the right noise when you open the taps. To be fair for that to work we probably need to fit a bigger silencer as the current one is loud enough without the valve. Would be nice to try out the valve though to see the difference so may hook it and see if I get time.

Would you have to hook it all up to test it? Or could you just fix it open with a screw or similar to test it?

It's a vacuum operated valve so will need to hook it up to the plenum so that it can open on throttle. Might be able to frig it into the open position but really want to see if it opens when it's supposed to.

I was told that the ecu would not be able to cope with the radium intake and headers+exhaust. Not sure if anybody has that combination.

Sorry missed the radium. Adding the radium will make a big difference but the ecu should still be able to correct back to factory fueling which is on the rich side anyway. That said the combination of both would really need a remap for it to work properly. Still have my doubts about the Radium, read all the claims but yet to see if anybody, other that Radium themselves has done back to back RR test like we did with Jim's exhaust set up. That and getting the car remapped is a pain as to the best of my knowledge it would have to go to Essex motorsport to get done and they aren't exactly local.
