It looks entertaining but I can't help but wonder about buying a Lotus and making it handle like a 1970s rwd. :?

Really interesting, id like to know what spring rates we removed, they were not standard for sure.
Noticed it was wet to start with, then dry, thats the biggest difference for me.

Makes for fun driving, and probably safer on the limits, but wonder how it would translate to speed on track?

Looks a little like the ethos behind the GT86/BRZ with softer suspension and narrower tyres to make the handling more enjoyable and accessible at lower and hence safer speeds on road.
Can't see many SE'ers following suit however :D

Plus the car was on NTRs and A048s to begin with. Had they also tried it on AD07s and standard bilsteins it may have had more relevance. The suspension they did for may have been softer but those were fairly serious bits of kit.

Very well put together video. I was thinking it was quite spritely before he mentioned it was honda'd. Will I put steelies on my car?.. no. Will I think twice before going fully semi slick?...maybe.

The idea was to make the car more predictable on the limit. 48's and the like grip and grip then let go dramatically so you have to be A: used to them and B: ready for it. By fitting softer suspension and narrower tyres it all becomes a bit more progressive and easier to deal with. Would be slower on track but much easier to learn the limits and how to catch and control a slide. Still wouldn't change the way the car would behave on 48's, 888's etc.

Just noticed this was my 3000th post, God, I need to get a life :D

New Caterham's mostly now come with 15inch and low profile tyres - most people upgrade to 13inch with 'standard' 60 profile tyres. Apart from being lighter, the bigger profile tyres move around more and give you more warning near the limit.

So why do Caterham fit low profile tyres in the first palce? At a guess, they give a more responsive 'modern' feel and look better!
