Really sick/no time to train or has he spat the dummy that Froome is no. 1?

Who knows, but certainly can see him lacking motivation to train/recover for a Grand Tour he won 12 mths previously that he would now be second fiddle on. He's not a team player.

Rightly second fiddle IMHO; he's had a poor season so far, while Froome is looking very good. Wiggins cracked in the Giro each time he was pressured in the mountains, until he retired. The same would have been likely in the Tour. Looking likely to end up with zero wins this year.

He's the type of athlete who if not 100% fit won't race and given his record that makes perfect sense.
Look at Paula Radcliffe in the Athens and Beijing Olympics if you ever needed proof that running with an injury or not 100% fit is foolish.

He has a knee injury and had to pull out of the Giro due to a chest infection. Anyone who follows pro cycling knows that this has nothing to do with Froome being team leader for the Tour - that was decided months ago and Wiggo's target this year was always going to be the Giro. Winning the Giro and the Tour in the same year is generally accepted to be impossible. Pantani did it of course, but that was fuelled by EPO. Team Sky is also an ultra professional outfit with a pool of riders to choose from to make up a team for the Tour. They would not select Wiggo when he is not 100 percent fit when they have so many other talented riders to choose from. Hopefully he will be back later this year for the Vuelta though.
