Job Websites / Recruiters - Offshorey / O&G Stuff

General query for those in or involved in the industry / recruitment - what are best websites for job adverts? Oil Careers and the likes? Any preferred for contract positions, and are permanent / staff positions more / less prevalent on these sites - I know some places just advertise on their own company websites..

Something I've never looked at really, as I've only been with 2 companies since joining the industry (about 8 years ago) - first one was a graduate position, second was a job I applied specifically for.

Companies are very wary of taking on fresh staff as many do one trip and hate it...

I work in sub-con manufacture primeraly for the oil and gas industry. We are having problems recruiting good CNC machinists we have been training apprentices at a rate of 2 a year for the past 10 years and this year we have taken on 8.

If you can program a CNC machine I could probably get you a start tommorow with some overtime.

I know some of the CNC guys who left Cal had 4/5/6 jobs on offer, seems to be a real shortage in the area just now. You did get a couple of good one sthat I know of at least.

Thanks. Not a machinist, Project Engineering for me. Mostly construction, lifting, some subsea, both O&G and renewables. Worked offshore before on a project basis for a few weeks at a time. I liked it on some projects, but not so much on others, though if I went that route, I'd probably rather do a month away somewhere else.

It's all conjecture at this stage, just seeing if there are opportunities out there.. I'm never quite convinced by some of the articles I've seen..

Loads of opportunities out there, I forget the exact number of new builds coming this year but somewhere in the region of 120-140 new rigs/ships/jack ups and various far eastern yards. Same same for the next few years as order books are starting to fill for 2020 delivery dates. Guess it depends what kind of project work you are looking for. Whether it's for mature units and platforms or existing fields or new builds. I am currently trying to line up a move back to Korea for another new build but this time in projects rather than operations and maybe take it out to work for the first time again. Post up some pictures from the yard once they upload so you can see what I am talking about.

I work with a number of project teams in o and g and they always seem to be short of discipline engs. I noticed they do seem to move in packs from one project to the next. So having good contacts and experience certainly helps. If that's not the case then agencies can offer a route in. Alternatively gain experience with an eng house like Amec or Aker and move on when appropriate. Subsea is booming and aberdeen seems to be the focus so a good option to focus on if you've already got a background. Demand for good engs is definitely high in most areas, however some do try to take advantage and apply for jobs they have little capability of. I don't think there are shortcuts when it comes to gaining experience but progression can be quick for the right people.

we got 2, I worked with Graeme M before and he is a good machinist, So many have started I am not even sure who the other guy is

Thanks again. Not looking for interviews as such currently, just checking out whats out there, and sussing out what I could and would like to do.
