New Toy

As some of you will have noticed from the Sunday run thread, I picked up a new toy from MMC on Saturday morning.

It's Aspen White with the premium sports suedetex pack. No race pack but seeing as I'm not racing I don't see the need - playstation mode is something I'd probably have used once to try it out then never touched it again.

As Brandon was away at Cameron House, Craig came in on his day off to do the handover. I think he was a bit disappointed at my lack of excitement - up until that point I hadn't driven a V6 and wasn't entirely convinced I was doing the right thing. The RGB had been an amesome car and I'm sad to see it go - how much better could the car be with a V6 in the back?

First drive was in to the centre of Edinburgh for lunch so not really a chance to stretch its legs. It's also limited to 4000rpm and part throttle until its run in so I wasn't expecting it to be quick, but it did feel pretty torquey. The ride is far smoother than the S2 - pot holes dont remove all of your fillings, and it's possible to have a conversation inside without having to shout.
The run north gave me a chance to open it up a bit more. We avoided the main roads as much as possible to get a better feel for it. First impressions were good. It pulls well from 2k and handles the poor road surfaces well so seems pretty effortless to drive. By the time I was home I was convinced it was the right car for me!

On Sundays run, with the car not run in I was expecting to be pootling along at the back holding everyone up, which ended up being the opposite to what happened! It started off very wet, so the Pirelli Corsa tyres make a massive difference over the A048's. In the RGB when it was wet, every corner felt like it could be your last - in the V6 you don't really notice the water. 90% of that's down to tyres but even when it dried up it felt so much more composed that the S2 ever did, and far easier to drive. Then there's the power. Even on part revs/throttle it feels quicker than the RGB did at full chat. Coming out of 30 limits in 4th gear, part throttle and it pulls away like a train. I dont think Mike believed me when I said I hadn't used full throttle or been over 4000rpm...

That's now 300 miles on the clock, another 500 and I'll get it in for it's service so I can open it up properly. I'm looking forward to getting it on track at some point to see how it goes above 70mph.

Massive thanks to Craig and Brandon for making the buying & selling process so painless! I should know by now not to wander into that showroom :-D

Nice one Neil! Having driven one that was run in, I know you are in for a treat!

Epic car. 8) 8)

I hope that you did not drive it up the kerb in the second shot?

Just looks stunning Neil congrats. Also doesn't look as big as expected when sitting beside the others lotus.
Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh,
Craig.

I probably didn't drive the range of cars you did, so I'll say it was the best I drove. Awesome cars, hope you enjoy it Neil. :thumbsup
