New Cayman

Must admit that it's looking pretty good, can't wait for the R

Usual comparison to 911 but with a £23k difference now, it's the Cayman that is the winner. Don't think you can get such a car in this bracket that will do everything, from relaxed cruiser, GT car and to sports car.

Unfortunately, it makes the Evora look hugely over priced.

Personally I think I'd rather have the new Boxster, for the roof off ability, or go the whole hog and get a 911. Never really liked the Cayman.

The looks of the older cayman were better, I think - perhaps the new shape will grow on me - I don't suppose the 48K is actually what it costs, though - presumably that's the price without extras that might be considered mandatory?

Another good reason for buying used.

It seems that beemers and mercs need £10K spent on extras to get them upto decent spec.

Indded, £4k less than a basic Evora and £13k cheaper than an Evora S!? (with power that is very close to the Evora S)

You'd have to be mad to buy an Evora new in my opinion (but then I've never really seen the appeal of the Evora  )

Porsches are very very special things to drive, if I had £50-£60K to spend on a new sports car that's where my money would go every day of the week.

Most people seem to think that way. Problem for me is, Porsches are everywhere. In my old street there was at least 4 of them..

The new Cayman will sell like hot cakes!

Undoubtedly a good car & so much more desirable than a 911 but still doesn't have the appeal of a Lotus for me.

I think the vast majority of people who don't want a Boxster/Cayman will be put off by the image and/or ubiquity.

And that is a very good thing for Lotus as they are relatively rare and with a more hardcore image.

I used to kind of buy into the whole hairdresser/ poor mans Porsche image of the Boxster which is pushed by the ignorant.
Then I was lucky enough to have a basic 2.7 987 Boxster for a weekend.

Even that basic car just felt incredibly special to drive in a way I can't describe. In my opinion it was far nicer to drive down a B-road than my VX ever was. The way it absorbs bumps etc while stil letting you know what was going on underneath was fantastic.

Ever since then my 'attainable' dream sports car has switched from an Elise/Exige variant to a Boxster/Cayman.

Blag a drive of an Evora, and I guarantee your opinion will change, after the first corner you come to!

I suspect you could be right- however that is exactly the problem Lotus face.

How do you persuade a potential Cayman buyer to try your car which is significantly more expensive?

If I was in that market, I'd be looking at a Cayman

Doesn't the new exige compete with a cayman?

The evora attempts to compete with a 911. Would still have an exige over a cayman and an evora over a 911:-)

However suspect it not close to Gt3 prices

They do have a number of other tuning parts to may your car a little bit faster!!
