Extended 12 month Lotus warranty

Post by dezzy » Tue Sep 05, 2006 12:50 pm

Does anyone know the value of an extended 12 month Lotus warranty, on top of the existing 2 year warranty?

find out if its with lotus, or MMC, or most likely, an outside warranty company.

if its the latter, then your better off getting the AA parts and labour warranty.

not being funny, but are you absolutely sure??

I bought my car 2nd hand, it was always said i'd have a lotyus warranty, but what that meant was that it was a lotus branded warranty through general holdings (who then went bust)

just check thats all

Has anyone had any experience with the Lotus extended warranty? Its the one that is offered directly from Lotus, costs (i think) £650 for 2 years, £800 for three. Basically covers all major components for failure (ex wear and tear and body/trim/interior/air con ).
nicked the above from exiges.com, seems there is alot excluded?!

Dezzy,
I got the Extended 'Lotus' Warranty and the 'AA' Cover when I bought my new (read approved Used Car) car from Murray's two and a bit weeks ago. Turns out the Warranty is through the Aon Warranty Group on behalf of Lotus and costs £170.21 for a year. The 'AA' cover is actually through Aon UK Motor Breakdown - whether this means the real 'AA' will show up if you need to use it is not clear from the policy documents. For a point of reference, standard AA Roadside Relay was about £90 when I renewed it in April this year.

Hope this helps,

You'll be lucky to get real AA even if you are with the AA these days, it's all subcontracted out up here it seems
£90 seems a bit steep? Is that the full breakdown on driveway/run out of petrol version?

Thanks John . . . I was told it was a lot more expensive than that. Sounds like MMC are lying to me again! Surprise, surprise!

You can also try another warranty company. Think they are called ScotSure or ScotWarranties cannot remember the exact name

I used them originally from MMC a couple of years back when I got an aftermarket warranty (500 for the year).

Last year I got MMC to quote me again and they went with a different company. They said the S1 Elise would be around 700 which I was not willing to pay. However I received a letter through from Scotsure asking whether I want to extend my warranty - 250 from 1 year or 300ish for 2 years (so jumped at the 2 year option).

Unfortunately out of the county away on business at the moment so cannot get their number but pretty well recognised in the motor trade.
