S2 kit/handling

Post by gordon » Tue Sep 06, 2005 5:57 pm

I've been having a good chat with Steve B about my suspention kit. As i posted when i was a member of the Yahoo group. I did have a problem on high speed turns after braking e.g Clarks where the car was tailhappy as the rear preload was too high. ( i know Neil claims to be able to corner my car faster round that turn, but the difference is marginal and we all have different driving styles at the end of the day. Ive not even been an Elise owner for a year yet and only get passed by about 2-3 much more powerfull cars on track :thumbsup and have never done any walsh training). (Plus i think he looks at the speedo later in the turn  ) Now i've heard of other drivers having this problem also (so its not just me) and Steve has kindly sent me different rear shock mounts. I've fitted these and moved the spring up to its top groove (to take all the tention out it), fitted a full set of Advan Neovas and put an extra 1/2a degree camber on the rear. Now i know from my motocross days that i do like the rear to move a little in the turn, so i need the car to be set up to have slightly less oversteer so i can enjoy driving it in my own style. This has totally transforned my car, it is now the Elise that i've wanted it to be. It is totally planted now and gives LOADS of confidence thru the twisties, rear breaks nice and smooth just when i want and is sooo progressive. I'm liking the Advans much better than the T1R's and they've added to its new found stability as they dont move about as much. (Although some folk will like the T1R's, horses for courses an all that) Steve is looking into modifying the kit to use these brackets (so yet again, its not just me) so if anyone has s2 kit on their S1 and want my geo setting let me know and i'll e mail you them :D I'm a very very happy boy now i can drive the car my way without having to consantly drive round a problem :D :D

Cheers

Gordon

Yep, he knows a thing or two about suspention and geometry. He sent me the exact setting a small or big camber shim makes to the geo so i once i had a base setting i could add or remove them and still know what my settings will be without putting it on the alignment machine. A real eye opener to read from someone whos tried everything and can comment on the pros and cons rather than just working the theory. Plus he's got that 240+brake K sereis engine. But we never covered that.
