Thought that it was time that I gave Verian another reason for not selling Tut Towers, so bought her another present yesterday.

The coop arrived whilst she was away in Aberdeen for the day, only 45 mins to assemble, and I had booked four hens from my local breeder, so went and picked them up.

Two are Bluebells, Daisy and Bluebell, and two are Plymouth Rocks, Hetty and Hatty. They should not be laying for another three weeks to give them time to settle in and meet Khan and Zara, but nobody told the chickens that.







Hetty, Hatty, and Daisy, can't find Bluebell at the moment as she is probably roosting somewhere. They still need to learn that the coop is their home and wander back in on their own in the evening. We get through about 18 eggs a week, and they should lay between three and four a day, so free range eggs, and they would have paid for themselves within two years.

Yep, Bluebell not seen since yesterday morning. Stupid bird, lovely home, gourmet food, big garden, and not easy to get out of it. They are inclined to pair off, so poor old Daisy is looking miserable. The cat and Zara are not bothered about them, but Khan has only met them on the lead, sits and watches them as long as they do not move quickly, but then tries to chase them if they do. Tis going to take time.

Never seen a fox since we have been up here, and they could not get into the coop overnight as it is shut up and sits on concrete. Have a powerful air rifle if we did see one, and the dogs should be a deterrent. Neighbors across the road have a lot of hens, but not had a problem.

I didn't think there were foxes around here either until a few weeks ago. I heard shrieking and screaming at 3am so I looked out the bedroom window (overlooks a grain field) and saw a fox maul a pheasant. I have never heard an animal scream like that, quite haunting!

Bluebell just appeared in the middle of the lawn after a day and a half, so probably no point in worrying about them, they just do their own thing.

Actually thinking of getting them a cock as well now for protection, and would probably warn Khan off if he chased them.

Asked Verian if she would like to pick out a nice, big, good looking cock, from the breeders selection, but should have probably explained what I really meant first.

Aren't you supposed to keep them housed for 3 weeks before you let them out so they know where home is?

I thought it was something like that as well... Not meant to let them just roam around straight away... But it seems like it knew where home was as it has since come back... No harm done.
