A good friend is looking to buy a 4x4 for his missus which will be used as main family car with 2 kids.
He's asked me about a 2008 Merc ML320 Sport at £16k - anyone have or had one? Views appreciated
I have given him possible alternatives as:
Audi Q7
BMW X5
Ford Kuga
Land Rover Freelander or Discovery
VW Touareg
Volvo XC60 or XC90
Any other worthy alternatives welcomed, based on him not being remotely car savvy, so a Cayenne is off the radar

Can get a lot of Cayenne for not much...
Why 4x4? Is it going off road? (Kerbs don't count) wouldn't an estate be much more usable/fuel efficient?
If they have never driven one before then they needs to, and park it in a multi-storey see if it still seems like a good idea...

It's going nowhere off road Rich
It's all about the "image" I'm afraid, which I don't agree with

I have one. And I'm selling it. But only because I want something fast & silly.
Good jeep, quick for what it is, solid, had no issues other than an ABS sensor. Rides well, handles ok for what it is. I'd happily recommend.
Mine's an 07, Obsidian black, 1/2 leather 1/2 alcantara seats, 73k. Usual spec for these things. Mine has air suspension, some, I believe are steel sprung - the steel sprung ones can, a mechanic friend tells me, eat bushes etc. Check the air con works.
(I'd take £15K for mine if he's interested? Mot'd 2 weeks ago, there's 4 or 5 months tax on it)
