iPod Touch 4 dunk capabilities (NLC)

Post by rossybee » Thu Jul 05, 2012 1:54 pm

My son Calum decided it'd be a great idea to jump in the pool fully clothed last night but turns out he had his iPod touch in his pocket :?

I know it's most likely kaput but any tips on how to give it best chance of recovery? I was gonna leave it for around 48 hours before trying anything, in an air-conditioned room so that should help dehumidify it, any more tips, or just throw it in the bin?

You could try this http://www.save-a-phone.co.uk/how-it-works_c82.aspx

Or slow bake at a very low temp in the oven. Apple have a very good replacement service which has a capped cost iirc (£120)

That's a bit rock'n'roll! :D

On the assumption that dried pool chemicals are not a good thing, I'd flush thoroughly with distilled water (car shop near you for battery top-up water?) before drying. The battery might be a gonner though?

When I dropped my iPhone down the (unused) toilet, I took it out, shook as much of the water out as I could, then put in a bowl of warmed up rice, then put that on top of a radiator. I left it for two days and all was fine. :thumbsup however, this is slightly different, so might not work.

Luckily the Gadget Show did a test on the best way to dry out your gadgets after a dunking, here you go:

Well well well!

Back from hols, found it in the bottom of the suitcase, thought "fck it" and put it on charge...

About a minute later it made that "beep-bap" noise they make when being charged, and the screen showed a very very dim version of the battery logo... so I tried to turn it on. Everything was fine, apart from the screen only being barely visible in the bright lights of the kitchen. So I thought it was the lighting which was fooked.

Went into the brightness settings and it was about middle set and adjusted it. All back to normal!

Everything works!

One happy son, and an even happier (for financial reasons as it's only a few months old) dad 8)

So I suppose the moral of the story is never give up :blackeye

Awesome!

I just hope we never have to go through that with our family iPod

I'm liking the boil in the bag rice approach mind you...
