A Toast to SE! My 1000th post!

Post by ruadh08 » Fri Mar 16, 2012 9:07 am

It gives me great pleasure lying on a beach in sunny Thailand, beer in hand, lots of scantily clad Totty around to ogle at, to make this post which will take me to the 1,000 count.

SE has given me great pleasure since I became part of it not long after it started, ( back in the old SE 1 days) and I have made many good friends from it. Robin, Kelvin, Campbell, Lawrence (rip), Scotty, Tut, Peter, Ross,Brian J,(rip) Andy, Graeme,Shug, Iain F, Walshy, Tony, Mike, WankR, Shoomer, JIm, Dutch Bob, Iain T, and many more.

Trips like Stelvio 2001, 2003, all the TT events,The various SERT trips, numerous other track day trips, and road runs ( in the good old days) rank as some of the best fun I have had with great comeraderie, a fair bit of booze, and most of all driving fantastic cars!

I remember being at the Geneva show press launch of the Elise, in 1996, when Britt Eckland pulled the covers off the car, I vowed then I would have one. A couple of years later, Robin was parking his silver Elise in George St Edinburgh, and after introducing myself, and listening to him waxing lyrical about it, I had to have one!

I bought my first S1 in may 2000, and since then have been privelidged to own 4 different Elise's, a 340r, an Evora, and now a1969 Élan +2S. My old school pal Iain B, who I converted to Elise ownership back in 2004, has also owned many since then, and rapidly became a very keen SE'er.

When you are on holiday, doing sweet f all, it gives time to reflect on good times in the past, hence this waffle to co-incide with my one thousandth post!

Long way to go to catch up with many of the other names's post counts!

I am now raising my glass in the sun to toast SE, past and future! :cheers

Congratulations (with a hint of jealousy due to your current place of posting ... sounds marvellous !).

I like these unofficial milestones on SE :)

All the best

Congrats Paul - you're far from a prolific poster like others on here

Out of interest (or not), Iain's first Elise was bought from someone I know well, who happens to live directly across the street from my brother - I can still remember seeing it on KH shortly after, still sporting its "Johnny" number plate :blackeye

Great time and place to post your thousandth Paul, just hard to believe that it is not at least treble that over all these years.

I feel exactly the same as you regarding S_E, it has been a large part of my life these past twelve years, probably the best bunch of guys and gals you could wish to meet who would do anything to help others, and leading to times and events that we will always remember.

ps:- and of course we all love the same car.

There's been some great times over the years - I no longer live in Scotland (or have an Elise), but I still have some fantastic friends on SE, and make time to read the forum almost every day... :)

Here's a pic of PAG leaving Andorra in 2001, enroute to Barcelona (Bonus N1 TUT spottage too... :blackeye )

I think taking a holiday to celebrate 1000 posts is a bit OTT, but congrats anyway! :D

Paul I never knew you were so sentimental...just dabbing my eyes here.

For anyone who wonders why some of our number occasionally get a bit animated about preserving the spirit of SE past, present and future, there's your answer.

I raise my late night glass of milk to you, Paul, and to your Thai Bride Verona :cheers
