How about volvo estate? You can get seats in boot of those.
Stuff like scenic and smax ford (not sure if they are 7 seats) are beyond dull. Would rather have an estate for the budget.

So a £5k Volvo Estate is the height of excitement
We have an S-Max (yes they are 7 seater) and for a family mover they are hard to beat and even handle well but you will struggle on that budget.

A few years ago when I worked for Honda
I had an FRV as my demonstrator.
I really liked it.
6 seats - 3 in the front, 3 in the back.
The 2 year old can ride up front with his mum & dad.

It's hard to beat the pre-2000 Toyota Previa in the people carrier world.
There's a mint looking auto in Edinburgh on ebay at present.
The 8 seater (middle bench) is a bit less refined than the 7 (middle captain seats) seater (we've had both), but the kids will destroy whatever you buy, so might as well be a 8 seater. Enormous boot even when all seats full of passengers - cavernous in 4/5-seater mode.
Imported versions are available super-charged
Cheers,
Robin

How about a w211... not sure what the mileage cut-off would be, but this sounds a nice spec:-

Does a Renault Avantime sit 7 people, definitely a left field choice but I think it looked really good.
Also my physiotherapist swears by the earlier Fiat Multipla. Really quirky choice and if you go for the pre-facelift (which looks too normal) would be a really cheap buy.

I've got both a Seat Alhambra and a Volvo estate 7 seater and whilst the Volvo is cramped it is by far the better drive. The Alhambra has good TDi but there are some common niggles - driveshafts, springs, windscreen wipers, aux heaters all have problems so you need to buy with care. £5K will buy
a decent one.
