Wedding venues NLC

Post by philthy » Sun Aug 14, 2011 11:10 am

Thought I'd ask on here since there is people from all over and some seasoned wedding goers.
I asked Laura the big question a few weeks back to which she fooolishly said yes and now we are looking at venues for 2013.
We are looking for something like a castle or country house with nice views, within 1hr30 of Glasgow(maybe further for the right place) something unusual would be good with space for a marquee if needed, open to suggestions really!?

Harburn house is supposed to be lovely, not been there myself but it does look nice. What about Dundas Castle? I know it's too far away but Dumtochty Castle near Stonehaven is just stunning!! :love

The number of guests you are planning on having will dictate what venues are available to you as even some of the castles out there can only fit say 50 for the meal, and personally I think marquees are crap (book a great venue and then have your meal and dancing in a tent!?!!?)

anyways, some of my favourites are:

Dundas Castle
Prestonfield House
Mar Hall
Ardanaiseig Hotel
Lennoxlove
Guthrie Castle
Birkhill

oh, and congratulations! :thumbsup

Just been to see mar hall today, really impressed.
Had a look at dundas castle and think it's on the shortlist.

Glamis is stunning, both of my cousins had their weddings there. Also Lauras sister is getting married in brig o doon in may!

Looking at about 80 for the Neal and 150 for the evening affair.
Will take a look at your other suggestions tonight David, cheers.

(that's why I think Mike will do fine, that and his lack of imagination).

Blair castle?
Or
Find a friendly farmer with nice outlooks and nice flat field that will be fallow that year. Gives plenty of room for hooj marquee. Had a few friends do this and you'd never know you were in a 'tent' as was suggested!

(congrats btw. Going to use the lotus in the big day?)

Congratulations!

I popped the question 3 weeks back and so far we've have visited and liked....
- glenbervie house in larbert
- brig o doon
- loch green hotel in troon

We have similar numbers to you and found we were too small for some places in july '13.....just watch out for surcharges if you are under 100

Difficult to say what u like and are looking for but the three above more than lived up to the brochure and impressed us when we visited......but for totally different reasons.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

I got married at this place http://www.traquair.co.uk/ Beautiful old house steeped in history. Oh, and it has its own brewery too :D Highly recommended.

I should also point out the Macdonald marine hotel in north Berwick. Where we had our reception, full height windows the length of the room with a balcony looking out over the firth of forth. Didn't mention before as not a castle/country house but certainly fits the views requirement

Congrats. We recently got married at Culzean castle (north of Turnberry on the coast) .more affordable than most would think and it's run extremely well. We also stayed in the Eisenhower sweet for the night. Fantastic photographs overlooking the sea and Arran.

We got married at Glenbervie House hotel in Larbert, big plus is that you effectively take over the hotel for the night, so no other people in the place.

Great service / food etc (bbq in evening on the patio was superb!), rooms superb although there are only approx 12. Nice grounds for pics etc. More rooms at Airth castle or a Premier inn just down the road! V central and easy to get to as well.

Def recommeded!

Nice going Phil.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.
