call me columbo!!

Post by deano15482 » Fri Aug 04, 2006 8:45 pm

after last nights fun at knockhill i was heading home to clydebank along the clydeside expressway about 1130.
as you come to the brow of the hill that's just before the SECC i saw a smashed up looking vectra facing backwards down the road.
i pulled in to see that the driver was ok and i asked him what had happened.
he explained that 5 minutes ago as he was driving in lane1 someone smashed into the driverside front wing and sent him into a spin which resulted in the complete removal of his front bumper plus a lot more damage.
i asked if he knew what kind of car in was or if he could remember anything but the only thing he could recall was that it was a big car and that he'd seen it fishtail down the road after it had hit him.as we were waiting for the fire brigade to turn up a passing car kicked up a piece of metal.i picked it up and had a look at what it was,and i could tell that it was a piece of alloy wheel.i had a lookat the stricken vectra and saw that it did not have alloy wheels.
when the FB arrived i took the guys phone number and said i'd drive down the road to see whether i could spot any shady lookin cars.
as i drove away i could see a thin black line on the road surface that looked like either a rubber mark or maybe fluid so i decided to follow the trail.
it leadme into the SECC car park area where 100 yards from the exit i could see a car parked.i approached slowly to see if anyone was in the car,it was empty, then i pulled in front of it and got out my car.
i briefly left the keys in the ignition but thought better of it as i realised i was right beside heavy trees and some 'opportunist' could easily claim my car as their transport home for the evening seen as they had abandoned their own!
i looked round the car and you could see very obvious damage on the passenger side front wing, alloy was a bit mangled, tyre barely on and front bumper a bit scraped.i took the details of the car, make, model, reg number and i also took a couple of photos with my camera phone.
after this...and while keeping a close eye on the trees,(i had a vision in my head at one point of this-> :chainsaw )
i proceeded going back round to the crash site to give the details to the local plod.think they thought i was a tosser at first when i pulled up in the teg
hope it all gets sorted for the guy as he was really shaken up and i image that to be a horrible thing.i've crashed before and its not nice but it must be worse if someone just hits you when you're going about your own business.

anyway....i feel like a detective now....think i'll change my name to columbo :D

Nice one Deano, wish you'd been kicking about when someone hit my car and took off without leaving details. Hope they throw the book at him for leaving the scene of an accident, scum of the earth...

Would they arse. I had neighbours taking details of some old dear who ran in to me when i was parked up on London, they asked her if she was goign to leave a note and said no as it was not even her car she was driving.

Gave full details to police etc and they contacted her bla bla and nothing.

No leaving the scene
No involved in an acident and not leaving details

Nufink, Help hire nailed her daughters insurance though.
