Just curious , i absolutely hate it , hate its dominance, hate that fact that i need to have an account to "LIKE" a Dell page in order to subscribe to a competition, hate the fact that the only way i can contact the younger generation to organise a game of football is via its Instant Message feature (the young don't use email ???).... grrrrrrr , hope im not the only one that dislikes it. Watched a documentary about Zukerberg , didnt like is philosophy that everything about an individual should be available online. Im sure he would do if he could get away with it. Please tell me i am not the only one that hates FACEBOOK !

Maybe there should be two questions, how many like it , how many have an account ?

I work in the software development industry , i have an account to understand what its all about but actively try to avoid using it but its getting more and more difficult

I have an account, and don't dislike it, but I'm not a huge fan and don't really get it tbh.

I grew up on forums and in chat rooms so have plenty of online experience, but I feel that Facebook simply doesn't have the substance.
It's nice for photos and organising things as many people check it VERY regular, and unlike email, there is a lot less spam, but the whole limited length of messages combined with people facebooking crap puts me off. It's almost too social. Nothing to learn from it etc..

The bit that really gets me is the add ons to the basic system like the games - go play a real game, not some shovelware nonsense that rips of existing titles / shows no real imagination / has no substance (no offence to any fb game developers on here...)
The 'like' system. Where's the damn dislike button. Why can't I dislike something. Why do I care that 3000 people like some random crap. It serves no use.
Also the 'checked in' thing. It's like a stalkers paradise, so and so checked in here there and everywhere...

do agree with JJ... however Ive been known to spout said tripe.

I resisted it for many years and then started using it last year - on it almost everyday now either on my phone or laptop.
I did have a rule about keeping work colleagues right off of it until a few better looking female colleagues sent friends requests which I just had to accept (not to be rude).

I now filter a lot of the 'newsfeed' and also restrict access to most of my 'friends' who i dont normally speak to. I.e the ones that I know either dont want to hear about my updates or whereabouts or the ones I dont necessarily want them to know what im up to.

I have a twitter login, but I only use it as a one-way 'feed' so i can follow companies or people of interest.

I do agree with you however that its getting harder and harder not to join these things... The Scottish Elises Group has been handy this week to send invites out for the camping that Campbell has organised - He is also resisting it!

I have a facebook account as I was 'conned' into it by a mate who kept telling me I needed to be in to see photoss arrange meets find out whats going on etc.
Use it occasionally and it can be useful - what I hate is getting e-mail messages every 5 minutes because someone has made a cup of tea - I could probably get rid of these but it would mean I need to spend time setting it up right and that looks difficult as there are 1.5 million security options
Having said that it serves a purpose and I have caught up with people who fall into the long lost category, kept in touch with others that I don't see often and I have also joined some useful pages that I wouldn't be able to do if I didn't follow the herd.

So verdict is: don't like it, do use it, quite useful now and again

glad im not the only one. I have been organised footie games (5-a-side / 11-a-side) for about 12 years , email and sms had worked well until now.

in fact this post probably outlines the way my fb works, i rarely comment, but just seem to 'like' things alot!

Fed up of reading:

"I've just baked a cake..."

"Oh look what I bought.."

So ditched it a month or so ago. Not really interested in what other schmucks are doing

I think it is a great way to keep in touch with people who are around the world, although i am not a great fan of, oh what will have for me tea tonight...

Got to be one of the most frustratingly useless interfaces for an old fart like me, so I rarely use it and actually shout at it when I do, but I did find my old school chum who runs a surf school in Oz, some old school/village photos and a good few old ski mates.

It has so much potential, wasted by some crummy logic.

I really can't be ar5sed with some of the crap people post, regarding some pointless thing they might be doing or their kids are doing. I'd much rather speak to my mates than read about their lives on the net!

The Social Network was actually a damned good film though.

I've never signed up, but can't help but think I'm sometimes missing out.

Linked In is another issue , could be a handy business related networking tool , certainly helped me realise that Sanjoy was a handy chap to know
