Now that my igloo and snowman are finished I've become a bit bored with this snow malarky :? , so what next can I get up too I thought... :?:

The other week I was watching River Cottage and was rather intrequed by this two day alcoholic ginger beer Mr W was banging on about...Yesterday or was it the day before  I /( we ) spent a few mins with some ginger, lemon, honey, caster suger and some yeast we turned out four / two lt coke bottles and sat them on the cupboard next to the ceiling...

By night time last night all bottles were gassed to max  :thumbsup.

Tomorrow lunch time I'm going to bung a couple outside to stop the yeast working strain as required and see if it makes me blind 8) I shall let you know the outcome :damnfunny

Tomorrow I'm off collecting rosehips to make some syrup :thumbsup

Hugh: "For this, you will need screw-top, 2-litre plastic bottles, which you have cleaned thoroughly using sterilising tablets."

Per bottle:
Ingredients
¼ tsp brewer’s yeast
225g caster sugar
1½-2 tbsp finely grated fresh root ginger
Juice of 1 lemon
1 good tbsp honey
Method: How to make ginger beer
1. Add the yeast to the bottle. With a funnel, pour in the sugar.

2. Mix the grated ginger with the lemon juice and honey.

3. Pour the ginger mixture through the funnel into the bottle. Now fill the bottle about ¾ full with water, put the cap on and shake the bottle until all the sugar is dissolved.

4. Top up the bottle with water, leaving a 2.5cm gap at the top, to allow for production of gas. Cap the bottle tightly, then place it somewhere warm. Leave it for about 48 hours. Once the bottle feels very hard and has no give in it, your beer should be ready.

5. Place the bottle in the fridge for several hours to stop the yeast working. Once the beer is thoroughly chilled, pass it through a fine sieve and serve

It says on the tv to use just tap water I did this first time round and it diden't work, its to cold at this time of year to start fermintation, I then used a 50% boilt oot the kettle and the rest oot the cald tap per bottle and off they go, bottles well gassed up within 24 hours or less:thumbsup Chuck em outside to stop the fermintation strain and enjoy :cheers
