Sound with HDMI

Feel free to tell me im talking rubbish as I no doubt am :)

At some time in the future we will probably get a new AV amp as ours is quite old and is now beginning to fall apart but in the mean time we have 3 HDMI sources and only one input for the TV (TVs 7 years old). We used to have something like this but it was pretty rubbish and auto select was very poor. So as a stop gap can anybody recommend something like this ... but better?

On the subject of new amps can anybody clear something up for me? Amps with HDMI support have a few inputs and only one output, does this work by putting the signal from say the blu-ray through the amp where it picks up the sound data and the image data passes through to the TV?

I know I've not written that very well but I'm sure you know what I'm getting at

Cheers in advance

Yeah - the amp handles the switching. Very handy, as it means you only need to bury one HDMI cable into the wall going from the amp to the TV and all other wiring can be out of the way in the AV unit :)

If you're looking at amps I can recommend Onkyo - I've used one all day every day at work for years, and recently upgraded to one at home too.

Similar to my setup. Ran a single 7m hdmi cable from my Sony amp to a wall mounted tv. 5.1 speakers on the wall and my ps3 and Sky HD box plugged into the amp in another room :D The ps3 remote works fine as it's bluetooth but had to get a wireless remote sender for the Sky remote to work.
