Signed. Really is a step too far, although thankfully I use the aiport a lot less than I used to. This may change of course.
Until Edin airport is correctly served by public transport...from ALL directions, not just Edin Centre...then charges like these represent exploitation of a captive market IMHO.

If you drive into the pick up car park instead, take a ticket, throw your passenger out and leave again with 15 minutes then there is no charge.
The £1 is no doubt being introduced because of the many many people that try to use the drop off spot as a collection spot (myself included).
Flying in the UK is a waste of time anyway
Cheers,
Robin

Partly yes, partly to pay for the terminal refurb, but also partly to recover the cost of a ludicrously expensive lease they signed on one of their car parks. But you didn't hear that here folks!

Good spot, although how long before this loophole is closed in the spirit of revenue-generating opportunity!

The price of the multi-story carpark opposite the terminal is hideously expensive if you park there and return the same day after a business trip. I'm sure is was less than £10 ish when it first opened but now it's about £18 or so

Is that the carpark that they are being humped for on lease costs ?
Recommend we start dropping of passangers at the Hilton Hotel then they can walk via the fancy new walkway to the hire car centre

The Scotsman has a bee in its bonnet over this (quite rightly), and it's almost a daily news feature...
The outgoing BAA manager put it down to 'Carbon Emissions of those dropping off / collecting'...This from someone operating an
airport...
Then it was 'safety, due to congestion'...
Then - Funding the improvements...(I use the airport a lot, and seem to spend more time passing through security these days? Is this because of allocating resources to the 'Fast Track' lane, which seems seldom used?)
The suggestion is, if you still want to drop someone off for free, you can drive round to the Long Term NCP, and they can catch the bus from there...Nice...

The debate about charges is to be held on Thurs 9th in Scottish Parliament. I got an e-mail notification advising its on and invite to attend. If anyone is interested and hasn't got the e-mail I can forward it on.

Judging by the works that are going on at the airport at present, the loop hole of driving through the multi-story and straight back out will be closed ... at the moment it costs you a minimum of £3 (IIRC from Sunday night) to park in the short stay car park, which is where they make you go for collecting people during the works. Thanks, BAA! The drop off lane is still open and plenty of people still using it to sit and wait for the people that they are collecting,
Of course the £26/day fasttrack lane is still open.
My advice is to avoid flying at all costs!
Cheers,
Robin

Waste of Parliamentary time IMHO - they won't change the decision, there's several other non-BAA airports now charging £1 drop off!
Airports are expensive to run and maintain - gotta make money some how!

I am fully behind the petition to oppose the changes

but now it appears fruitless we need to continue our opposition to prevent all UK airports from following suit and imposing the charges. Please join my facebook group where you can find all the latest news on the Edinburgh campaign and a summary of the parliamentary debate including video footage:
Oppose the Drop Off Charges at Edinburgh Airport
You can also read my article on the impact of the changes at Belfast International Airport which inspired me to follow the response of airport operators throughout the UK:
Belfast International Airport Parking Drop Off Charges
I really appreciate all your support and please give me feedback/comments on your experiences and thoughts on both facebook and on my article. Although the situation at Edinburgh might be finalised we need to continue to oppose greedy airport operators before all UK airports introduce similar charges. Keep updated through our twitter account
