Height for TV (NLC)

I'm looking to make some more space in my lounge and contemplating putting my TV above the fire place. It's a coal fire but very rarely used. I currently have a mirror up there so have pretended it was a TV to see what it would be like. I guess would take a bit getting used to.

I just wonder if it's too high. Currently the bottom of the mirror is approx. 53" from the ground. TV would approx. be 46" in size.

Is that too high? Benefit is no kids sticky fingers marking the TV

Pretty sure it's supposed to be eye level to the centre of the TV while your sitting down. Mine is just slightly higher but it is about 23ft away.

Think eye level to the centre of the viewing screen is supposed to be ideal.

Slightly OT but a many of the physio / medical journals are reporting a significant increase in the number of people attending with neck problems due to the modern fad of mounting tv's high up on livingroom walls. Guess it isn't too surprising if you add up the number of hours in a year spent watching the box.

I design and specify lots of wallsystems for TVs in lounges and none of them have the TV higher than the centre at 700-800mm from the floor.

I've got my TV at that height and it isn't a problem. I guess it also depends on how close you sit to it.

Gary.

Ours is a 46" tv and the bottom of it is 47" from the floor. We sit about 5 feet away from it and have no bother watching it.

We have 46" Samsung hanging on the wall. Bottom is about 30" from the ground and is fine. Could be a few inches higher but I wouldn't want it much higher.

I must admit that for my taste above fireplace is not a good look.

It's not the best idea, btut it can be done - can do a tilt down bracket or a bracket that lowers the TV for watching and can be pushed back when not needed.
Give me a call at the shop

Tony.

Alternatively I could weld up little frames to mount your sofa 2 foot higher

Thanks, should be look a bit better with proper rack when it comes (not on this occasion from your good selves).

Got system in bits at the moment to connect up the new kit. Won't get chance to set up properly as we are down on the ferry down on Thursday to enjoy the Elise on the fine roads of the far North West for a week, hope the weather is good !! - at least the Elise limits what can be bought in the Aberdeen shops on the way home.

Went in the Elise today to collect my other half from the school she was doing some supply teaching at and got mobbed by a bunch of 10/11 year olds asking about the car.

No offence intended but that's definitely one for the bachelors amongst us!
Not the prettiest of systems although I have no doubt of its performance.
The nicest I saw was actually at Holburn Hifi with speakers hidden behind canvas prints.

Tony, I'll come and have a look.
I won't be your best sale of the week!

Been married for 39 years and my other half enjoys our systems as much as I do. Will look a better with a new rack I have on order but still fairly large although in quite a big room.

HIFi kit has always been a priority !!

Climbing in and out of the Elise is more of a challenge for a pair of pensioners
