Road legal quads (FALC)

Am i the only one who just doesn't "get" the appeal of a road legal quad.
I can maybe see some of you east coast farmer types wanting one but I passed one this evening heading east in the fast lane of the M8.
Yes you read that right, some twat was riding a quad (wearing the seemingly obligatory camo jacket and motocross helmet) just going past the MSA building on the M8. WTF ?
Can someone please explain why you would want to do that ?
Thanks

Nope I can't explain it. They handle really badly on tarmac too - you have to hang off them so they don't roll.

I nearly collided with one on Saturday as the rider of said vee-hickle decided to cut a corner that happened to be shared with my car coming the other way.
Silly billy.
And no, I don't get them either.

Phil - i see the appeal in a field or a quarry or something, i just dont get why you'd want to ride one on the road, and specifically the M8.
All the downsides of being on a bike, without the upside of being able to zip through traffic. Just dont get it.

They also (imo) look ridiculous on the road.
What's the licensing rules on them, I *think* you can ride them on a car licence so it might be the non-bikers of the world?

If you know what you're doing, theyare great fun. On The Hay's stag - someone didn't and now has three bits of bone where one used to be.
On the road, they're no less dangerous than a two-wheeled bike - provided they can do motorway speed there's no reason it shouldn't be there, is there?

Greig im not saying it shouldnt be there at all - i'm just wondering what the appeal on the road is.
.....although ive just read that you only need a car license and you don't need to wear a helmet - so i guess that's it.
Motorbike type thrills but without the licence

I guess the point I was trying to make is that you're in to dangerous territory questioning the appeal of something being on the road .. on a specialist plastic convertible car forum

I'm aware that there are many people who would claim that neither my VX nor my Buell should be on the road
on the other side i bought the above vehicles, a 300c and a fiat panda and yet still i dont see the appeal of a quad....
....and im strange
