To me, To me. Crunch.

Post by pete » Thu Jun 22, 2006 11:27 pm

Just had the MOT done on the Elise (first one). As I was driving it onto the ramp, older mechanic guiding me on, younger guy watching. Older guy waves me forward until crunch. Front splitter (? I think that is what it is called, fin type bits in front of front wheels) had hit the bottom of the ramp putting a whole in it.

Cue "Oh we'll need blocks for this one it is too low".

Well yes you will, there isnow a hole in my car.

Let them do the MOT and then he says " well that was painless".

Errm well except for the hole in the front?

Well you were driving!

5 mechs vs me. Not even any point in arguing that where I come from the bloke guiding you on is supposed to make sure you don't hit stuff you can't see. That's why he's there.

Only the size of a ten pence piece but dead noticeable as it is right on the front and I want to get it fixed in case it gets worse. The car is black and obviously the damage is white.

Been quoted 60 quid to get it fixed just a bit pissed off as it shouldn't have happened at all.

FFS! They are insured for that kind of crap.
Seriously... call Consumer Direct and see what they say. You'll be amazed at the kind of influence they can have in situations like that!!

He'll have an excess so it probably won't even merit a claim on his insurance. There were no witnesses other than his employees.

I doubt very much I would get anywhere, and the hassle trying just wouldn't be worth it. Just going to chalk it up to experience I think.

That'll teach me to use shady garages on the edge of civilization...

Well Consumer Direct can suspend them trading.... and the realisation that those 5 mechs might have to stand up in court and lie!?? might just make the garage reconsider and be a bit more careful with the next guy driving up their ramps. We pay (a lot of) taxes for this kind of free help / advice / protection, seems a waste not to use it. But it's up to you.

Duct tape, that'll fix it!

But seriously that sh*t shouldn't happen. Do as DStP (Scottd) says, complain to somebody about them

Or SE road trip to pay them a visit?

Craigie Motors Kilmarnock. Edge of Shortlees (for those who know Kilmarnock).

I've actually come over all zen about the whole thing. Yes I could complain but they know where i live, it's a distintive car which I park in Killie all the time etc. Not worth the hassle for 60 quid. Just annoying.

Next time - Croft in Tarbolton. Know my car and they are actually a motorsport outfit (rallying) so know the score.

Just don't expect a plate glass waiting area and tea in a cup that hasn't been used to store bolts ;)

without knowing the ins & outs, I'd say you've got a good chance to claim on that one.

1. write down everything exactly as you remember it to keep you right.
2. write letter to manager.
3. await grovelling response
4. fail to receive grovelling response, say you'll raise a Small Claim :)

Small claims can be done by you (cost you £39 to raise, but you get that back once successful. Where claim that low, no expenses can be awarded against you if you loose (or to you if succesful!) so there's nothing to loose bar the £39 to raise the claim in the 1st place.

5. if you get stuck, drop me a pm :)

Dude, in all honesty - he lives & parks in Killie. This garage is in Killie. It's Killie.

You know what I mean?

I'd agree with him and just let it slide, before the car received another 'accident'.

What's the world come to when you're afraid to make a legitimate complaint in fear of criminal retaliation :(

and you just know if something did happen to your car as a result there is absolutly nothing the police can or will do about it :(
