bUYER for my car coming tomorrow. He want to test drive it but the only way is to add him to my poilcy. If he screws up and casues a crash, Ill lose my NCB.

Also car jacking worries me. However he is bringing id regardless of wherther he drives it or not...which should help.

How can I avoid losing this sale but staying safe in all aspects?

Can he not add it to his policy?

When I've had courtesy cars I've sometimes had to add them to my policy..

Is he coming to your house? Got any mates or neighbours that could be around?

he cannot add it to his policy fully comp as the law states that there cannot be two people fully comp in seperate insur companies on the same farking car.

I can add him to mine though fully comp for a week for 21 quid!

So do i risk it and add him to mine and then he stalls while trying to get onto a roundabout and we get smashed from the side or something...I have to claim and lose NCB

You could add the courtesy as there was likely no other person insured fully comp on it.

If he's fully comp then he should be able to drive the car on his insurance on a third party basis.


Before you let him in the driving seat get him to hand write and sign a document stating that in the event of an accident, regardless of blame, that he will purchase the car at the advertised price.


I'm sure one of the lawers on here could help with the actual form of words.

You could ask for a deposit say the excess on the policy, phone up and also get your NCB protected for peace of mind.

Take him for a run in it rather than letting him drive.
Have you called your insurance company for advice?

Don't let him test drive it - rather you take him for a drive. If he wants to test drive it, he will need to insure the car himself (3rd party) and agree in writing that he will purchase it in the event of any accident.

take him for a spin and if he really wants to drive a lotus he can fcuk off to MCC and drive one of theirs, then come back and buy your car.

you're not being unreasonable - your car is a valuable bit of kit and so is your insurance no claims.

What ^^^^^ say, that's how I sold my motorbikes. Folk don't expect a test ride and you wouldn't let a stranger ride off with your bike. They had a thorough look over, liked what they saw, agreed a price, handed over the cash then rode into the sunset.

Take him for a test ride, let him have a look over, if he's happy and the car good (it looks good anyway) you'll have no problem. If he's a timewaster or test pilot, well...

~Things just didnt add up. He didnt want to meet me at my home address. He said he was in the middle of moving home and wanted to meet me at his new address. He couldnt give me a landline number.

He was however, the most polite person...almost too deliberately polite actually.

In addition I couldnt get support from friends this wkend so Id have been alone.

I told him I was running late, and he said yeah Im running late too....and I thought wel when the hell were you gonna tell me. He knew I was travelling from Dundee for an hr and a half just to let him see it at my parents house and this was already an just over an hr before our meeting time....I think he was gonna tell me just while I was enroute and try to get me to go to his address whihc is enroute to my parents'.

Too effing fishy. Told him to forget it then he says he only has 13grand anyway - farking a$$hole. £16k ono mate

So just about to go out for a blast with roof off to feel a bit better!!!!

Also Admiral kindly refunded the money i paid to have him on the policy Admiral have been Top Notch for the last two years btw.
