When are pads well and truly....
I had a look at my brake pads the other day and they seem to have lost a fair bit of meat (rears look worst strangely), but how many mils is it til it's metal on metal time?
I just want them to last until after fridays track day, but don't want them to bugger up after 2 laps....

How many mil is left? How long has it taken you to wear this far? It's a factor of how hot you get them....
OTOH, are you asking how many mil on a new pad? From memory, my last Greenstuffs had maybe 10mil on them... That's just from memory though.
FWIW, I agree with G here - just get some new ones. Never worth skimping with a track session looming.

Sorry for the vague post
Thing is they were on the car when I got it 2nd hand. So I'm not sure when they were new. I've done 10000 miles on them, including one track day (east fortune) but a lot of the cars use is just getting me around at a not too stunning pace.

When I look at them the fronts seem to have at least 6-7 mils on them until the bigger pad bit thing on the outside.
Other thing is, my disks are nearly so if i fork out £100 for mintex pads then need new disks won't I need new pads again?

Nah, not really. Take some time bedding them gently - let the pads form to the shape of the disc over a few days. They'll flatten out reasonably quickly. Other thing you can do is just sand the face of the pad (making sure it's perfectly flat) when you fit the new discs - that means the material transfer will be uniform from the start.The_Rossatron wrote: Other thing is, my disks are nearly so if i fork out £100 for mintex pads then need new disks won't I need new pads again?
6-7mm should be okay though... Unless you really horse pads or they break up. I'd always have a spare set at a TD (for safety's sake) anyway.

The reason people say that, is that you want to have the pad material transferring to the disc uniformly from the start (if you're using them hard) If there's plenty of meat on the pads, there's no problem in using them (sanding them flat, if you must)

For steel disks ...
Front pads are 9.0mm from new (measuring from the surface to the bit wank-R is holding in his hand). Book recommends replacing at 2.5mm - you'll find the last few mm vanish quickly on track.
Rear pads are 6.5mm from new (as above), with same 2.5mm replacement point.
Typically front inside pads wear faster than outside and you cannot really see them without removing wheel.
Suggest you check all 8 pads - less than 50% on any pad is not going to be enough for 4 hours of dry warm weather esp. not in an S2 Exige on R tyres, unless you let me drive (I don't use the brakes much as I don't drive very quickly).
If they are the originals throw them away and be thankful for the music that they've been singing, you've had your money's worth (mine went after one day at Oulton and one day at the ring - Ali's similarly).
Don't worry about the disk thing - in fact changing disks on brand new pads can be a bit of a pain with pagids as they are a bit thicker than standard IIRC, so starting with part worn is a bonus.
If you're stuck for pads I have new set of RS14's here (though you would want to change all round rather than mix compounds). I probably have various spare sets around the 50% level (because I change them before ring trips and so on), but TBH it's a waste of time to fit anything but brand new ones.

Do you think Eliseparts would struggle to deliver by Friday?
Do pagids squeek like people say they do as my car is mainly for the road this may do my head in.... hence mintex was my plan...
