Traffic Cop with Laser Gun Question...NLC

Just passed the big sign that says 'Welcome to Scotland' on the A1 yesterday afternoon and there was a traffic cop on a bridge pointing a laser gun at me. Is all this logged and speeding motorists sent tickets, or would they use it to measure your speed and then come after you and pull you over?? Say i had been doing about 90mph, would i be getting 3 points and £60 fine?

If it was a traffic cop they'd have to pull you over at the time. They'd have to get pics to send you it in the post

That's the way I understand it as well, NIP's come through the post from Gatsos and scamvans, radar guns are a chase and stop.

For 90 and up to 95, most Forces will give you a fixed fine and three points, 95-100 is a court summons.

Mark 14 days on your calendar.....they have that long to get a NIP to you.
They can only "do" you up to that point.

I got a court summons once for 88 on the M6 passing Wigan. Supposedly if you're from the wrong side of the border they cant give you the fixed penalty

I've had more than one cheeky wee three pointer fixed penalty from south of the border, so whoever told you that is telling porkies methinks.

Porkies? no?

meh....

Campbell, does a court summons still have to be posted within six months of the offence?

Ian is sitting on five months and 7 days.

 Bloody expensive porkies. Can't remember exactly what that one cost me but it was considerably more than £60

I was stopped 40 miles south of Scotch Corner for my five points at 97. That is where the police told me about the 95-100 band and that it would have been a fixed at under 95. They also told me that they do not bother up to 85, but that it is not a National ruling, depends on the individual Force.

Bollocks, a double whammy. The police have to present the case to the PF within six months, but the PF can issue you with the summons when ever he wants to.

I think most people thought the same as I did.

ps It did not mention Countries but I presume it is the same in Scotland as it is in England.

Be aware that some mobile foto gun things look awfully like normal radar guns. A few years ago i thought i'd got away with it as they didnt chase and then got a letter through the post.

Dont think they are handheld but i was caught by an unmarked mondeo rather than scamera van.

Sneaky/clever (delete as you choose). If it's the bridge immediately north of the Border laybys, then there's already a Gatso in the central reserve approx 50yds further on. Possibly an attempt to spot drivers before they decelerate for the 'known' Gatso location?
