Im looking to buy a decent underwater camera , the problem is i know f*ck all about them .
I was using a little Olympus sp-350 in a housing with some pretty decent results but flooded last trip so a replacement is needed :D
Ideally i would buy a camera and a housing again as it means i can also use it for holiday snaps etc.
I have been having a look at these http://www.camerasunderwater.co.uk/d_st ... e_g--.html
but as said previosly dont have a clue when it comes to cameras
We are taking the little one away with us this trip so will probably pick her up one of those waterproof / shockproof basically break proof cameras just for snorkelling
Ive seen the olympus one but thats about it are there any others?

Hi.
I've got a Sony N2 - had it for 3 years now. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/N2/N2A.HTM
Great wee camera - 10 megapixels, touch screen etc...
I bought the underwater housing to match it - "MPK-NA" which was £140 3 years ago http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-MPK-NA-Mar ... B000BZ1J0O
Its depth rating is 40m.
If you are diving below 4 metres, you need to buy the orange lens (approx £60) - this puts the all the colour back into the pics. (i'll try & post a pic to show you)
However - i have the camera swithched to Auto - and taking photos of fish is a hit or a miss.
Remember - ideally you need to stay still to take a photo - and when you are scuba diving - this is very hard - so you need to master your buoyancy.
Breathe in -you float up 30cm - breathe out, you sink 30cm. so, best to hold your breath (Which is against the rules!)
Anyway - 2½yrs ago i went to the Red Sea. I took 400 photos of fish / coral etc... - i got 50 good ones !
Best results is to take Mpeg clips.

If you want a proper housing for a video camera / SLR camera - you are talking at least a grand for it.

hope this helps
Cheers
david

I've got the Olympus miu 1035 which is pretty bombproof and can be used underwater. 10.1 megapixel and also takes video. Decent size for the pocket when not in the water and you can buy a neonprene case which has an armband holder which is handy when snorkelling. So far can't complain and was rated high in Stuff magazine.
